XviD1.1b2 Packed Bitstream always on??

Hey, i hope this wasn't discussed already but I found nothing similar via search. Today i installed XviD 1.1, looks nice, works fine but it seems that the "Packed Bitstram" feature is always enabled even if I disable it in the encoder options :confused:
Did some test encoding, turned Packed Bitstream of to avoid problems on my SAP but when I check the output files with MPEGModifier it tells me everytime that the file has a packed Bitstream and the DivX503b1393b user data. Anyone encountered something similar??

Are you selecting a DXN profile?

I've done extensive testing on many SAP, I've had too, I wrote an app called avi.NET.

For instance, MTK chipset based players will stutter when a movie is encoded with packed bitstreams, but, bear this in mind.

If you do NOT use a DXN profile and have 'packed bitstreams' enabled you'll have problems, but, if you use a DXN profile, GSpot and MPEG4Modifier will tell you you have packed bitstreams but it will be OK, beleive me, look at the NVOP percentage, using DXN profile it will say 0.00% and it will play just fine.

Have a quick test of avi.NET, select XVID, check for packed bitstreams, it will say yes, but it will be 0% and it will play just fine.

I always use the DXN HT profile to ensure SAP (in my case ESS) compatibility and to be honest never experienced problems with packed bitstream anyway with my DVDP630 but most peolpe told to leave it off and so I do. What just confused me was the question why my output contains packed bitsream but your are right, I did some quick VDM encoding and the N-VOPs are all at 0% :thanks:

Trouble is firmware updates are make/model dependant, not chipset dependant so my friend who has an MTK chipset is a bit stuffed as it's quite an obscure make, no firmware update available.

As long as I limit XviD to at most one consecutive B-Frame, it works fine with "Packed Bitstream" turned on, but as soon as I allow two or more consecutive B-Frames, motion gets jerky with "Packed Bitstream". If I remove "Packed Bitstream" with MPEG4Modifier, motion is smooth again. Thus one should always be able to disable "Packed Bitstream".

XviD forces packed bitstream if any DXN profile is selected. Otherwise, it honors the user's setting.

MPEG-4 Modifier's N-VOP count doesn't include the "dummy" N-VOPs used to pack the bitstream, so most AVIs with a packed bitstream will show zero N-VOPs.

The stuttering motion with MTK chipsets is not a function of a packed bitstream being present but of the combination of a packed bistream with more than one consecutive B-frame. therefore, simply using DXN profiles will not ensure that this problem is not encountered as those profiles in violation of DivX Networks' certification standards do not enforce a limit of at most one consecutive B-frame.
