Can I replace DVD2AVI with DGIndex?

After a long pause I plan to backup some of my DVDs. For the compression of MPEG2 video stream I used DVD2AVI produced D2V file as the input for TMPEG Enc to encode MPEG2 format video stream. Now I noticed that most of the people here are talking about DGindex.

Does DGIndex bring the same decode quality as DVD2AVI when I use them with TMPEG Enc?

With DGIndex, you have to use an Avisynth script and open that in TMPGEnc. TMPGEnc cannot open DGIndex D2V files directly. You can also use DGVfapi to convert a DGIndex D2V file to an AVI that TMPGEnc can open.

But the strange thing is, I just used DGMPGDec1.21 (some older version) to make a d2v file. And TMPEG Enc (2.521) just opened it fine and I am in processing. Maybe something messed up here...

But you haven't mentioned a quality differece. So I may assume that they both have the same output quality?


EDIT: Sorry I find out what I meant is not DGIndex, but DGMPGDec. :stupid:
