Hello all,

I am attempting to combine 2 avi files using VDM. When appending the 2nd file to the 1st, VDM gives the error message: "the audio streams have different data formats." According to the information on both files, they have identical audio properties. Is there another way to combine these 2 files without extracting the audio from one, re-encoding it, merging it with the silent avi, etc? i.e. is there another application that can effectively merge 2 identical avi files?
BTW, I have included snapshots of the file information from VDM for both files, maybe it can be helpful. Thanks!

try avimuxgui ! (rtfm!!!) if the audio streams are compliant it will do. if not u must convert (one of) them.

Thanks Yaz. I actually tried by adding both files in the drag and drop, and outputting as one avi, but strangely, the output avi is always the same duration as the first avi, only larger in terms of MB's. In other words, both files are not merged into one. Can you please explain, step by step, how to combine 2 avi files using avimuxgui? Thanks.

Did you select _both_ the files and then press "generate data source from files" ? Check here (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-Zeug/AVIMux%20GUI/en_join_files.html) for more info.

Thank you so much! (so simple and right under my nose).
You wouldn't happen to know, by any chance, of a similar program for combining 2 mpeg's? (but not TMPGenc). Thanks.

What is wrong with TMPGEnc? Just do a bit of Googling and you can find many apps.

Nothing's wrong with tmpgenc, except that it's behaving the same way VDM when merging 2 identical mpeg files. That is to say, it won't merge them at all. There seems to be a wide range of apps to merge mpeg's out there, and I'm very inexperienced in terms of knowing which ones are good. Can you suggest one?

I've never used TMPGEnc to merge MPEG files, but maybe you have a problem going on like your VDMod issue? Could you possibly be one click, or setting, away from getting your desired results? Check your Help files and dig around in the FAQ over in the TMPG Forum. And, as USB suggested, Google works wonders, too. :)

[Edit]USB-Good catch, and good link!
