Trying to encode a movie (with subtitles), and I get the following error:

[7/5/2005 6:28:52 PM] Output will contain 214313 frames
[7/5/2005 6:28:52 PM] Preparing subtitles.
*************************************
EXCEPTION: Cannot open file "D:\FILM_SAKAFI\agk_tmp\VIDEO_TS.idx". The system cannot find the file specified
*************************************
[7/5/2005 6:28:58 PM] Job finished. Total time: 14 minutes 27 seconds

From what I've found by searching (this forum and google), it seems to be related to VobSub and the fix is/was to reinstall it.

I've uninstalled VobSub and AGK repeatedly (even cleaning the registry) and reinstalled a few times and I still get the above error when I try to encode with subtitles.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Tx

only this movie?

P.S. full log file would also help...

As you can see, I have the same problem with 2.12b - I'll rip another foreign DVD and with subtitles in a bit and try again.

Thanks,
Tx

len0x,

Good news and bad news.. :)

The good news is that it worked fine with a different DVD, which means it doesn't look like an overall AGK problem (I know you had no doubt.)

The bad news (for me) is that this particular DVD still fails, and I've ripped it multiple times. I'm able to watch the VOBs directly and display subtitles, so I know they have been ripped.

I'm at a loss - I'd appreaciate any tips.

Thanks,
Tx

Have you tried manual indexing using VobSub configure? If it works then just feed created IDX backto AutoGK using CTRL-F8 option.

If you have problems indexing the subs manually, then try and see if your .IFO file is named VTS_04_0.IFO. If it's not then try renaming the .IFO, and then try indexing manually.

I've encountered my suggestion a few times.

Question for LenOx:

"EXCEPTION: Cannot open file "D:\FILM_SAKAFI\agk_tmp\VIDEO_TS.idx". The system cannot find the file specified"

Is AutoGK trying to open a .idx file, shouldn't it be opening the .IFO? plz right me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions - I tried manually indexing the subs and I get an "Indexing failed" message in VobSub. I also confirmed that the IFO is named appropriately and the VOBs follow the same naming convention.

I guess I'm SOL with this DVD?

Here's the Stream Information file from DVD Decrypter, for what it's worth:

0x20 - Subtitle - English - [SubPicture 01: Normal] / LBA: 48 / PTS: 00:00:00.303 / Delay: 80ms
0x21 - Subtitle - Français - [SubPicture 02: Normal] / LBA: 40 / PTS: 00:00:00.263 / Delay: 40ms
0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / Arabic / LBA: 24 / PTS: 00:00:00.223 / Delay: 0ms
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x480 (NTSC) / 4:3 / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.223 / Delay: 0ms

I'm going to try SmartRipper just to see if maybe DVD Decrypter is doing something it shouldn't (the disc isn't protected).

I'm an idiot - I guess I don't have to rip it.

Anyways, using VobSub on the DVD itself still gives me the "Indexing Failed" message after it goes through "Finding Key"

Still messing with it - Thanks again for the tips.

Try not using "stream processing"....actually I don't know if this matters.

Tried both ways - I'm about to give up unless anyone has other ideas (or a link to a good VobSub forum).

Try flinging the IFO into Subrip directly. Of course, you can only get srt files this way :)

niamh,

Wow - That was a huge pain in the ass to do, but also very educational. I used SubRip (once I figured out how) to get the subtitles out of the VOBs with "OCR." Then I realized that I saved in the wrong format (I used .sub, which AGK didn't like), so I did it all over again and saved as SRT without saving the SUPs (again, it took me an hour to realize this one). Thankfully, I had saved the matrix file from the previous exercise, so it didn't take very long to create the new file once I figured out what I was doing.

Bottom-line, it's now doing the compress-test, which means I'm a whole lot further along than before.

Thanks for all of the tips - Is it common that VobSub wouldn't be able to handle certain subtitles on certain DVDs? I don't know anything about formats and such.

The preview looked good.

Not that I know of.
I'm glad you figured out how to work subrip without any help, as you said, you will benefit from it ;)
You can ocr anything from idx files, too. It doesn't take that long, once used to it. The main advantage, I find, is a clearer prettier font. The advantage of a vobsub file (as external file), being in that you have several languages in the one file, instead of one language per file.

I'll say... (hope this isn't too much bandwidth for anyone.)

I just got the same error with vobsub:

Indexing Failed...

Tried many times, still always it gave the same message..

the solution was very simple.. use the correct IFO file...

There were IFOs:

VTS_01_0
VTS_02_0
VTS_03_0
VTS_04_0
VTS_05_0

I always gave it VTS_01_0, but it was wrong. I finally looked at the corresponding .VOBs and noticed that VTS_04_0 belongs to the main movie, once I gave it, everything worked ok.
