Nero Digital's Cinema Mode

Is there any reason to use Nero Digital's Cinema ASP mode if all I'm doing is encoding DVD Sources? The Cinema Mode is for sources up to 1280x768 i.e. Hi Def Sources. I thought Cinema Mode looked better but am I imagining things?

At the end of the day, "a profile" is just "a profile"...

Given your source, only you can really decide what "profile" setting yields the best results for you.

You could even decide to use the "Maximum Definition" setting. Which allows you total control over Recode2's audio and video settings!

Where "profiles" are useful is if say, you're a novice who wants to generate encodes that are compatible with an hardware device ;)

Simply put, the various profiles provide access to certain features. For example, the mobile profile doesnt provide access to the features available in the Cinema profile.

Your best bet would be to use Maxium Profile and tweak/remove any settings you dont need. Profiles are a guideline for use with certified players.

At the time of writing, all the currently available "NeroDigital Certified" players are standard-def only. However there are a few non NeroDigital Certified players/devices that support high-def.

Basically, the "Standard Profile" allows: - Pixel frame sizes up to 720x576 (anamorphic)
Multiple B-VOP
2Ch AAC-LC audio

The "Cinema Profile" allows: - Pixel frame sizes up to 1280x720
Multiple B-VOP
Qpel
Custom Matrices
2Ch AAC-LC audio
6Ch AAC-LC audio
2Ch AAC-HE audio
6Ch AAC-HE audio

Oh, and just to confuse buyers even more, some players offer 6Ch AAC-LC audio, some don't. Some offer Qpel support, some don't. Some offer AR signalling detection, some don't :eek:

Hopefully, when Zensonic release their Z500 player the above situation will become far less confusing, because for starters it should be the first high-def capable player to support both NeroDigital and DivX Certification, anamorphic signalling detection for both .MP4 and .AVI containers and 6Ch AAC audio output via analogue....

Thanks for the Detailed reply. For my use which is strictly to view Movies with 2 ch audio off my Laptop and possible on a future Portable device or my PDA, Standard will more than suffice. I still prefer Xvid it's a tad sharper, but for the speed Nero cannot be Beat.

This is why I networked my home and have a Media server serving my Nero files to my 3 client PCs...

No need to worry about compatibility :)
