Well, in case anybody is interested HDCAM SR format used MPEG 4 compression.
It is supposed to be keyframe onlya nd H264 Frext extensions...
Anyway I don't think it is lossless......

Digital camcorder technology is improving all the time.

Sony now have a domestic HDV camcorder (HDR-HC1), which records high-def MPEG-2 directly onto DV tape. JVC have a camcorder (Everio GZ-MG50), which records std-def MPEG-2 directly onto a 20GB hard-disc drive...... It's just a matter of time before somebody develops a std-def or high-def camcorder that will record MPEG-4 directly onto a hard-disc drive :D

the only reference i found was that this cam uses "mpeg-4 studio profile", i am not sure but afaik this refers to mpeg-4 part2 and not part10 (avc)!?

splitted and moved this from the avc lossless thread as it doesnt belong there

It likely refers to 4:4:4 colour space.

Yes it uses Studio Profile with either 4:2:2 color subsampling or 4:4:4 - for more information have a look at this:

Thanks for the links communist,

The first link dates back to information posted in early 2004. So.... no MPEG-4 AVC recording then ;)

The cost of the camera seems very affordable though.... How much is the SRW5000 – with options?
Base price for the SRW5000 is $88K. Option pricing is:
HKSR5001 = $10K
HKSR5002 = $ 4.7K
HKSR5003 = $10K I wonder whether you get a free pair of pants with every order?

Cheers
