Hi all

I encoded a video with CCE 2.67.00.27 that Bitrate viewer said was bottom field first. After I encoded the video Bitrate viewer said it was TFF. I know it was encoded as BFF because I did not check the field order and encoded it as TFF by mistake the first time and the video did not look right.

So I was just wondering if CCE did not put the right info into the video to say it was BFF or if Bitrate veiwer is reading it wrong?

Also can this ever cause any playback problems with different DVD players?

Thanks very much

CCE encodes always TFF. If you specify BFF as source, CCE will delete the first scan line effectively making the bottom field to become top field and then encode TFF. If you want to have it really BFF, encode as usually without specifying a field and change the field order afterwards with Restream.

2 cents: CCE is wise to do this, as BFF is only really used in 1 format (DV), where TFF is used pretty much everywhere else (SDI, digibeta, etc). also, the default for mpeg-2 is TFF.

if only everything stuck to TFF there'd be no field-order problems and people wouldn't be as scared to work with fields.

Thanks for your replys I will remember this for the future.

I was worried that I did something wrong or that there might have been playing problems so I will just leave it the way it is.

newer versions of cce 2.7x+ finally incorporate both a real setting of field dominance (tff/bff). the legacy option to set a scan line removal is still there also.
