Well ?

Especially now when DGMPGDec 1.4.0 Final released and DivX 6 released I think it's time for new GK !!!!

Just wondering but what is there to support in the new DGMPEGDec? And DIVX6 support, well only if its as good as or better than xvid but thats only my opinion, but I'm sure there area lots of people who would really like to see support for it.

Now that I've tested Divx 6, it's pretty obvious that Divx will never equal XviD. It's probably time for a codec showdown.

What is the problem of using new DGMPEGDec? Just unpack it to its directory and use GK as usual...

P.S. I'm not planning to update GK any time soon...

Okay, I've love using GK as I've been using it for years so it's very disappointing to hear you won't be updating it anytime soon! Very sad! I like divx for ease of use and stability mainly, and have watched AutoGK develop though I've not actually used it as I liked the control in GK. But honestly, I'm not a super encoding guru like many who hang out here, though it looks like the only thing AutoGK won't do that I would do in GK would be to allow for a non-mp3 audio stream and an alternate container. I've read somewhere that you won't support them until they're more popular, but, that seems a little like circular logic given the popularity of the software. ;-) Guess I'll stick with DivX 5.2.1 for now - and hope and pray.

I did it but the d2v file was not loaded by GK then.

I'm very sad nobody's going to update GK, once you make effort to learn how to use it, results are so good!

GK works perfectly with current version of DGIndex. Must be some mistake on your side.

Concerning the future of Gordian Knot: there might be none. With newer encoding GUIs (esp. MeGUI) becoming mainstream and the strong movement towards cli encoders, Gordian Knot starts to become obsolete. Its strong tie to VirtualDubMod at the same time ties it equally strongly to AVI/VfW and limits the possibilities. A year ago I'd never have dreamed of saying this but now it's reality.

Unfortunately GK's source code isn't too clearly structured and well organised. You can tell it's a project that grew organically over time. But this also means that doing the major changes necessary to add things like proper support for Matroska, x264, MP4 won't be a fun task.
I had a thorough look at the sources myself with exactly those things in mind and eventually gave up. Starting again from scratch might be the more reasonable course of action.

Hm, when reading through all of the above it sounds awfully negative. So don't get me wrong. GK is still a great tool and will continue to be great for the near future. I use it myself for most encoding tasks. But I wouldn't expect any major progress.
