Guys,

Ever since I installed Gordian.Knot.Codec.Pack.1.9 I get an error with my receiver service and my TV card stops working. Any ideas what part of the codec pack could be causing this?

I can honestly tell you that I went through quite a bit of hassle with my Media Center PC. Codecs will play hell on your system, confusing the TV enc/decoder, etc and MCE.

If you are looking to just encode movies for play on your media center, this is what I did.

download and install AutoGK -
download and install Divx 6 Play Bundle -
download and install Helium if you have HT or mult-core cpus
download and install AC3 Filter / Matrix Mixer

encode your movies with AutoGK

about as simple as you can make it without causing havoc to your HTPC. I have my NVIDIA codec for my TV Tuner Card and DVD Player, and DiVX 6 for play back and encoding.

my hardware
P4 HT 3.2ghz
1GB RAM
2X Sata 500GB
MCE 2005
Creative Labs Audigy THX 7.1

all my DTS encoded movies work perfect in MCE -

Warning though - do not have more than 300 movies in one directory for MCE to "thumbnail" through. - it will crash MCE - break the movies into directories such as (Drama, Action & Adventure, etc.)

Don't make life complicated encoding movies in odd formats. keep a standard if possible, will make life easier for you and your player. I always encode DTS and set it at Insane Quality.

Hope this helps any other Media Center guys out there, since I was quite clueless when I first got mine.

Hi dreamcast,

Thanks for the info will try it soon.

I wanted the codecs to play avi/xvids etc.

I take it I can get all the files from the doom9 site?

DiVX Play Bundle (http://www.divx.com/divx/play/download/)

AC3 Filter - for surround sound encoded DiVX (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ac3filter/ac3filter_0_70b.exe?download)

Matrix Mixer - allows you to change volume levels, etc. (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/matrix-mixer/matrix_mixer_0_30b.exe?download)

hope this helps. if you have anything with Xvid, then im not sure, all of my movies are kept to one standard since my last codec pack download messed things up pretty bad.
