I was wondering, since I don't know what purpose some new options in WFW rev. 270 have, can anyone explain these options to me:

1)In main x264 window,a new option is Debug with Log Mode(Error,None,Warning,Info,Debug).I don't know what purpose these options have, please give me some good advice how to use,and when to use this option.

2)In Advanced mode,new options are Threshold(default 0),Bias(default 0),8x8 Dct(for high bitrates),a mode 6 in Partion Decision Quality(RDO-Slowest),ME Method(Diamond Search,Hexagonal search,Uneven Multi-Hexagon and Exhaustive search),ME Range(default is 16).

I know someone will say that I must know this things,but I am new in x264 compression,and I don't know much,yet. :o

Can someone, please, explain in detail all these new options, because I don't now how they affect on quality of output video file.Especially,I want explanation for ME Methods,ME Range,Bias,Threshold and newest mode 6 RDO in Partion Decision Quality option.

I aksing this, because I don't want inproper use of this new options. How these options affect in general video quality?

:thanks:

:search: Certainly, all of the things you asked about in 2) have been discussed in this forum recently. I'm not sure if Debug mode has, but it is self-explanatory

the rule of thumb is: if you dont know what an option is for leave it set at default

the defaults are already pretty good

Ok,but if I don't know what a option do,how I ever can improve video quality.

Forum rules 1 and 1a: read and search before asking. All of these options have been covered in this forum. If you are too lazy to search, don't expect anyone here to do your work for you.

I'll help you a little: www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-x264.html
This is a guide to CLI but is easy to make the relations. Many things don't are explaned there. Search the forum to learn more. The x264 lacks of documentation... OK, its in "early experimental stage"...

But I have a question: where is the --b-pyramid option in Sharktooth VFW build? I'm a idiot who don't find that yet.

select 'use as references' in the b-frame area

Oh! Thanks.

I already suspect this....but since the names are so diferent and I read in some places that B-references is a sub-optimal seting I thought that --b-pyramid was a diferent thing...

:stupid:

remember x264vfw use the same x264cli options (since it's based on it) even if they're called with a more friendly name.
