Nero digital without Recode

Hi !!

As Nero AAC dlls can be used with Besweet or Adobe Audition, i wonder if there is a way to encode in nero digital without Recode which is too contraignant.

it used to be possible with older versions, but nero modified their filters to prevent that

It worked like that for a short while because of a mistake.
I'll ask if we could remove these restrictions from the coming commercial Nero Digital pro package.

i would more say it worked because of a weak mechanism to prevent the external useage: i may remind you that it was only possible to use the filters when you renamed the app you used the filters with (eg graphedit) for example to "recode.exe", so the mechanism thought its recode which uses the filters and allowed the useage

once nero realised that people realised this was a way to circumvent this mechanism they started to block the filters in another, till now not known, way

Unfortunately it was blocked because the information became too public that you can circumvent it like that, and you know it too.. We are bound by some licensing contracts also you know.. Everything what happens is not only our evilness..
well in a market which aims at the joe average user, its also the joe average which should complainWell, I don't know if you can be called joe average as a Doom9 moderator, but you have been doing a very good job in this area for a long time, especially when it's about Nero. ;)

well i dont know your contracts, but it would be wierd if illegal useage of nero's filters (eg distro in codecpacks) would be seen as nero's fault

Well JohnV, i think you're a great developer and for sure you've done a great job in the evolution of NeroDigital codec (which i considered great), but at least don't try to mantain (and sustain) a ridicolous position adopted by Nero regarding codec and filter-like usage of the codec... you would lost many points in consideration...

I cannot imagine what contracts would require the codecs to be locked in. I get the feeling from the ateme guys here that they'd be rather happy if a cli version could be released.

Though, I completely understand from a marketing perspective that you want to be in full control of the format. The day people can create ND content with the likes of MeGUI, muxed together with audio from whichever audio codec people use (how about the apple encoder <evil grin), ttxt subs (which aren't supported on ND certified standalone players), and then ask for support... It's just another approach than DXN took.. if you look at all the issues with people trying to play profile-less DivX or XviD content on (certified) hardware players, it might not be such a bad thing to lock the format in.

Obviously, many people frequenting this board are savvy enough to be able to handle things with a commandline encoder, create their own MP4s and know which features to use and not to use to make things play. But it's quite something else for Joe Average - and there's a lot more Joe Averages in Nero's userbase (keep in mind that ND is a free add-on to their burning software which is widely used) than knowledgeable Doom9 forum members ;)
