I just backed up a ntsc dvd which i have'nt done before, encoding went fine except the import into scenarist gave me a number of errors and warnings..

Importing gave me this error..

Error Class(Sub-Picture Play) Tag(Duration, 7203) failed to paste

Although i did read in a post from a search that this is actaully a bug in scenarist.

Then when building the output i got...

Error Line21 at 00:16:09:06 or 00:00:00:00 is across the cell boundary(cell #4 and #5).
Error Line21 at 00:34:31:10 or 00:00:00:00 is across the cell boundary(cell #8 and #9).
Error Line21 at 00:41:26:05 or 00:00:00:00 is across the cell boundary(cell #11 and #12).
Error Line21 at 00:49:14:03 or 00:00:00:00 is across the cell boundary(cell #14 and #15).
Error Line21 at 00:55:28:12 or 00:00:00:00 is across the cell boundary(cell #16 and #17).
Error Line21 at 01:18:40:16 or 00:00:00:00 is across the cell boundary(cell #24 and #25).

Then a bit further done i got this warning which i have not seen before..

Warning The Prev Cell<VTS2_Title1_PGC1_PG1_C1> and the Current Cell<VTS2_Title1_PGC1_PG2_C1> are connected seamlessly and the Current Cell<VTS2_Title1_PGC1_PG2_C1> has only one VOBU.(PGC:<VTS2_Title1_PGC1> (Title:<VTS2_Title1> VTS:<VTS_2>) )
Warning Some DVD players have problems with this limitation.

Scenarist version 2.6
Scenaid version 1.6

Sorted the last one, read another post, changed it from seamless to non-seamless, no more warning.

Just need to sort those line21 errors.

those mean the closed captions cross a chapter/cell boundary. it can be ignored as it does not cancel mux (it will either truncate or remove the closed caption that happens at that time interval.)

I see, the thing is i have just checked in the track editor and zoomed in and then check them chapter/cell points and theres no over laps on the subs from what i can see.Its light purple at them points, subs should up as a drak purple patch.

The subs play fine after the mux.

I dont think thats a good idea, scenarist removing close captions, then you would have subs missing right.?

closed captioning isn't visible on the track as it's applied directly to the video asset and only exists on NTSC disks (no CC in pal land)

it also isn't the same as the subtitles...

So is there any way to fix that error ?? i checked the output in powerdvd and the subs seem fine when i skip forward to those points, dont seem to be any text missing.

again, has nothing to do with subtitles.. has to do w/ closed caption.. totally different

sure you could fix it if you wanted to, but it takes quite a bit of manual work to adjust the CC files

So leaving it as is wont effect play back ? i did find info on CC's http://www.robson.org/capfaq/overview.html#What explaining about closed captions.I myself cant see the point of having captions hiden in the video single. Pal subs seem easier

captions arent intended to be subs. even though some ntsc dvds only have them without subs. CC are intended for the hearing impaired. CC not only has to display the spoken words, but also must give indications of sounds.. like 'Thunder' or 'sound of footsteps' or 'wedding song playing'.. so that someone hearing impaired can follow the action. subs dont 'have' to include this (obviously they could but are not required.) all ntsc tvs made since 93 have to include decoders. so subs and cc are really 2 different animals even if they may not appear to be.
