Hi I bought a DVD/Ps2 game from ebay (singstar karaoke game). from playing the game last night it would some times just freeze up when loading to the main game play.
I have tried to make a backup of the disk using DVD decrypter but I keep on gettign read errors at 26%.
looking at the disk I have noticed it has a few scratches on it so I am guessing this is the mian cause of the problem.
I have cleaned the DVD with specail DVD/CD cleaner spray + tried backing it up using another DVD writer I ahve on my PC and I still get the errors at 26%.
It does give me the option in DVD decrypter to ignore read errors, but I woudl only end up with the same bad data the same as the orginal but on a diffrent DVD-r disk.
do you no off any way I can fix these reading errors using certian software ?? + what are my options here ??
thanks for your help guys !!

As blutach posted on that forum it's a physical problem on the disc so no software can fix it. You can set DVD Decrypter to retry more times when it encounters an error, but that rarely does the trick.
I've never had good results with toothpaste or any abrasive polisher and I've never tried CD/DVD cleaners, but I have had good results with non-abrasive car polish. It worked about 6 out of 10 times on badly scratched DVDs. In particular, I used "Liquid Glass Ultimate Auto Polish/Finish", but I've been told it's expensive. I didn't buy it, but used a few drops here and there from a friend who got it for his car.

If you're a UK resident, you may be aware of product brands such as T-Cut or Brasso. They're both ammonia based products with very fine abbrasive properties and when used properly can remove scratches from the "shiny side" of the disc only!
Always place the disc on non slip surface before polishing. And take care that excess liquid not to run onto the rear of the disc, as it can remove the print.
EDIT: If the "print side" of your disc is badly scratched, then sadly there will be some data loss. And other methods of data revovery will most likely be required :(

Well I have had success using ISOBuster. Get it Here. (www.isobuster.com) My kids had a very badly scratched Game CD "Clifford the Big Red Dog" that would not work at all until I ran it through ISOBuster. It took awhile, but it made a working copy of the disk successfully. I have not tried it with DVD's yet but it works with both.
Data Recovery is their cup of tea.
Regards,:)
edit: They have a Freeware version, That is what I used.

I'd imagine you've got a better than even chance of getting screwed with badly scratched second hand CD's / DVD's / Game Discs purchased online. My reason for avoiding such - having only purchased hardware through ebay.

You can try using Nero Drive Speed to slow down the read rate of your drive, it has worked for me recovering some DVD's that were badly burned.

ive gotten second hand disks through half.com and havent been disappointed.
as far as errors on the disk.. for some i reealllyy wanted to read i used dvd decrypter and set the retry to a low amount (5 tries) and hardware retries to 2.. then after every failed attempt (DD will ask you to retry, abort, etc) i eject the disk (you have to turne read hardware lock off!) and then immediately put the disk back in and press retry.. this seems to have more success than letting DD try forever. this is a pain in the rear and only useful if you reaaalllly want the data when there are lots of errors. its also good when there are only a few errors, but really bad errors.

I 've heard that people have the best results with Brasso metal polish.
