Hi i'm encoding Full Metal Panic Fumoffu and as i see the soruce R1 DVD is filled with dotcrawl everyware. I tried using DeDot it didn't help much, there is still a lot dotcrawl on moving scenes. Is there anything i can do to get rid of the dotcrawl, maybe something stronger then DeDot.
My Script:
MPEG2Source("D:/DivX/FMP Fumoffu/Episode 01/FMP Fumoffu 01.d2v")
DeDot()
DoubleWeave().tprivtc("D:\DivX\FMP Fumoffu\Episode 01\FMP Fumoffu 01.tpr")

You can try using the virtual dub Dotcrawl comb filter. It has a few settings that are sure to get rid of just about anything.

This thread should really be in the Avisynth Usage section.
You should receive more answers there.
Maybe you could ask a mod to move it there for you.

Well, you could try adding more dotcrawl removers (like GuavaComb) in addition to DeDot.

LanczosResize(width*2,height*2)
Sangnom()
LanczosResize(width,height)
While Sangnom was not developed for this purpose to my knowledge, often/usually the dotcrawl gets detected as an interference and sangnom kills it. Don't know how it will affect the overall sharpness/image quality, just try it.

A single Sangnom doesn't do THAT much to Dotcrawl. I tried it on the Dotcrawl that was on the DNAngel disks, and, while Sangnom helped with it, it didn't remove it :(
Lanczos4Resize(*2)
Turnleft.Sangnom().Turnright.Sangnom()
Lanczos4Resize(*1)
This helps a lot more, but it trashes a fair bit of sharpness and detail. Sure, you can get that back via sharpening, but I'm not too fond of the look of double-sangnomed things...
Edit: recomend Lanczos4 — Lanczos4 worked better for me when I was testing this with different resizers.
Yeah, maybe more dotcrawl removers. Or just don't deal with soruces with dotcrawl — it's too horrible, and whoever's responsible for it deserve to be slapped VERY hard ^^

SirC, the correct way to do sangnom is:
LanczosResize(input.width*hscale, input.height*vscale)
SangNom(1, strength)
turnright()
SangNom(1, strength)
turnright()
turnright()
turnright()
LanczosResize(input.width, input.height)
I took that out of my custom function, so plug whatever you see fit into the params. Strength = 255, vscale/hscale = (usually) 2.
Using turnleft/turnright has a weird effect with the edges, so going around completely with turnright prevents that. Methinks turnleft is/was buggy. Maybe that was a long time ago before I used this script, so mayhaps it has been fixed.
