Hi just wandering...now that Decrypter is no longer going to support new encryptions...

What is the closest equivalent...

Some say 1click dvd copy + dvd43...?
or dvd cloner 2?

Until new protection mechanisms actually arrive (and are overcome by other programs) then DVD Decrypter still rules the roost. All the other rippers etc are doing now is trying to catch up to where DVD Decrypter was/is at when development stopped.

I was thinking this too, when DVD Decrypter doesnt work anymore because of no updates, there has to be something to go to,so far DVD Decrypter is going great for every movie I have I have burned, going to miss it.

Even when new protections come out, DVD Decrypter can still be used uif helped by software such as AnyDVD/DVD43free. They are run at the same time and removes the protection before DVD Decrypter rips the DVD.

There is also DVDFAB Decrypter which works ok.

It doesn't matter what the drive is as long as it does DVD.

If you read This Thread Here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=95712) you will see that DVDD can still be used for quite a while yet with the regularly updated AnyDVD. Just make the changes indicated in DVDD to make it work. Those programs you mentioned are not freeware save dvd43, nor is AnyDVD.

If you are going to totally abandon DVDD then the thread "nwg" indicated should give you some direction.

@sunny

Because DVD Shrink's development stopped a couple of years ago, has everyone stopped using it? The same is true of DVD Decrypter. It will work in most instances, unless the whole movie industry moves to encrypted their disks with variations of ARccOS that it demonstrably can't handle (or yet another new type of protection arrives - eg ripguard).

Thanks for the info guys...

I will continue to use DD in conjunction with Anydvd...with the hope that Anydvd continues to get updated as new encryptions come out...especially on U.K dvd's.

Big thanks to LUK + Ollie.

Cheers.

It was only Summer of last year. The first 1.02 version was May/June 2003. Mr Shrink did a lot of work in just a year and a bit.

What has helped Shrink is that it can do other things that make it useful like DVD Decrypter is capable of as you know.

one possible replacer of DD that is beguinning to look real good is Magic Ripper. Fab Ripper free is not delivering files that can be read by shrink, recode2, dvd2one and others.

[Qouted] "Fab Ripper free is not delivering files that can be read by shrink, recode2, dvd2one and others."

I haven't run into any problems so far on NTSC sources. I've seen a few negative reports with PAL titles, though.

Hi, I certainly like Any DVD as a replacement for Decrypter. I was using 1 Click DVD Copy and DVD 43 and it was a hit and miss that DVD 43 would have the yellow > red devil smiley change to a green smiley indicating that the protection was removed and so I bought Any DVD and find the program great. I have been using it for several months now and like the feature that it shows you when updates for the program are available which is almost every week and a half at the moment and all you have to do is go to the site where you purchased it and download the new version overtop and it is uptodate.
The other feature I like about Any DVD is the fact that when it is finished scanning the source in your DVD Burner it has the capability if you check the box off ; to advise you of what sort of protection was on the Source DVD as well as Region information.

Once I read that little message then I use either my 1 Click DVD copy or Clone DVD for some of my data files that are larger.
i bought Clone DVD at the same time I bought Any DVD and use it instead of Shrink now as I don't backup on a regular basis and have found that Clone DVD gives me the the quality that is satisfactory to me, is user friendly, has support, and I certainly make sure that I use my Burner's supported quality media. I have had no bad backups. And have had them play on 4 different standalone dvd players that I use, mind you I always burn in DVD ROM.

I still occasionally use Shrink along with Any DVD, but since I don't do that many backups frequently; I usually need to do a little brushing up on the app before I start and so that is why I tend to use Clone DVD more often, just a little easier for me.

Just adding my comments for what it is worth.

Cheers!!
