View Full Version : 0.93.2Pro: BUP and IFO not the same???

I'm using version 0.93.2 Pro together with CCE SP v2.67.00.27 to backup my Steven King DVD's Kingdom Hospital 1 to 4.
With all DVD's, everything works fine, but when burning the VOB/IFO/BUP set with Nero 6.3.1.23, I get error messages saying: "Backup file *.BUP should be identical to *.IFO" (where * are all IFO/BUP files the compressed DVD should contain).
Ik seems that the BUP files are not identical to the corresponding IFO files. The files have the same size, but by binary comparing them, there are differences.
Shouldn't the BUP files simply be a copy of the IFO files?
Possible bug?

Yes it could be a bug... but I don't think it's likely.
Check the original DVD and you will probably find the same thing... Every BUP that DVD-RB creates matches the IFO exactly... but IFOs that were copied intact will match the originals. I've seen something similar in which doing a "Get VTS Sectors" in IFOEDIT found corrections in IFOs that were not changed at all and wanted to change them.
It is important that the DVD match the original structure in every way possible. Burn it as-is... DVD-RB is doing it right.
[As an afterthought] You aren't using any other packages that may be changing the IFOs are you?

i had this a bit with older versions of nero - try a newer version and see if it does the same

Thanks for the fast responce!
I will check the original files. I didn't use any other program, just DVD-RB on the original files.
By the way, I just copied the IFO's to make new BUP's. No error messages anymore before burning, and the DVD played well. But ofcourse, I didn't expect anything else.

Thanks for the tip. I thought my version of Nero was ok, but I will try a newer one.

Strange but true... with the original DVD, the IFO's and BUP's are also not identical. This must be the explanation for the above "problems".
Well, with the backup, I just copy all IFO's to BUP's, and that works fine.

maybe, jdobbs should rewrite ifos (if there are changes) and then copy to bup to avoid authoring error problems

If it works on the original... it should be left alone. This could be just another avenue for copy protection...
