I just installed the newest nvidia drivers for my 6800gt. Now all my xvid coded vids are poo.
I just compressed a video with xvid this morning and it looks like garbage. I searched a little bit - did anyone else have a problem with this?
I already re-downloaded xVid 1.0.3 drivers and reinstalled but that doesn't help. Video files that used to look good also look bad so I'm pretty sure it's the codec and not some new error I've accidentally introduced in the encoding process.

nvidia helps in MPEG4 encoding or decoding?

Reset your color correction settings to default in nVidia settings. This driver screws them up.

They also removed the refresh rate override setting for D3D / OpenGL (why?) in newer versions. In case you really need that setting apply this registry fix:

these drivers also don't work with half-life 2, steam recommends switching back to 71.89!

By-the-way guys, how can you find out which video driver version you have currently installed?
I have an GeForce FX5200 card (with 256MB of RAM) and I must admit I have not got a clue what version of driver is installed.

Right-Click Desktop, Select Properties.
Click 'Settings' Tab.
Click 'Advanced' then the GeForce Tab.
You'll see Version Number displayed.
(older versions had a list of files with version numbers, latest one or two versions will now just say: ForceWare Version 77.72 or whatever)

You have version 67.02 Ahh,
Many thanks, I understand now.... 6.14.10.6702 actually means 67.02.... It could not be any clearer :D
That said, does anybody know whether the 77.72 drivers are compatible with the FX 5200 card... I find the layout/information on the nVIDIA web site quite confusing

Yes they work for every nVidia chip from TNT over GeForce / GeForce2GTS (...) up to the latest G7800 GTX.

I took the plunge and upgraded last night.
At least this release clearly identifies the "ForceWare Version" number.... and "may the ForceWare be with you too!"

Of course, as soon as I played an (Mpeg4) video file, my screen was bleached out. But after re-setting the "Apply Color Changes to:" "All", everything appears to be okay!
I have not checked, to see if this new "ForceWare" works any better over DVI... I'll give this connection a proper going over in a few days and report back.
Cheers
