View Full Version : Ghosting in Capture

I have just captured a 1:30 hr B&W movie using the picvideo mjpeg codec (compression @ 19, 720x576 pal).

When I play the movie back in media player classic or in WMP, as well as the expected interlacing, there is a lot of ghosting as actors move across the screen. I haven't seen this on previous captures.

After processing to Xvid in VirtualDub I have noticed that the ghosting remains. De-interlacing or resizing to 352x288 makes no difference. Neither does bitrate.

I tested a segment through NeroVision Express, as I hope to make a DVD as well as a compressed avi. Processing to DVD removes the ghosting effect though produces a lower visual quality (max 6920 kbps for 1 x 4.9g DVD)

Does anyone have an explanation of what's going on and can suggest how I can remove the ghosting when I rip this capture to Xvid. I'd like a nice sharp avi to keep and playback on my computer as well as an inevitably lower quality DVD version for TV playback.

OK, I've found that the ghosting can be eliminated by deinterlacing w removing one of the fields, instead of blending the two together. Experiments continue...
