Does anyone know if it is possible to just "wrap" an existing DivX 5 (or Xvid) movie with a chapter list, without re-encoding ?

I converted many concerts recorded on satellite and would like to just add chapters to them.

P.S. Until now, I used to create *.chf files to play with BS-Player.

Matroska, Ogg... are non-standard containers. DivX 6 is a defacto standard container. :o

Desktop-box players already play DivX 6 demos with embedded chapters.

What I ask is: is there a way to produce them without re-compression. :thanks:

all i know is that you can use fuse to add audio tracks and subtitles with fuse.

a good gui for it is srt2bmp availablere here in doom9 i use all the time, load a divx5 file, audio tracks or subs and it will wrap it up and produce a divx6 file.

im not aware of any tool that does chapters

divx 6 is not a container and especially not a standard, cause if it where a standard than there would be specifications standardising the standard available, which is not the case

if you want to create .divx files than explicitely say so

divx 6 is not a container and especially not a standardI agree with you, the container is AVI (or .divx). What I meant is the "certification" given (sold) by DivX Networks creates a "de-facto" standard, leading towards players from any brand being able to manage movies including chapters, subtitles and so on.
I would have loved Matroska or Ogg to win the competition, but we all live in the real world, don't we? ;)
