Sony DCR-TRV250E camcorder and capturing video

I have some video that I want to transfer to my pc. The included software (ImageMixer) can use the included usb cable to capture streaming video from the camera, but the resulting video is 320x240 and I don't like it.

Is there a way to get something better?

According to Sony's published specifications, that camcorder includes "i.LINK Digital Video" connectivity. If I recall correctly, "i.LINK" is another name for IEEE-1394 or FireWire. If your PC has an IEEE-1394 interface, this would be an alternative method -- and, an ideal one -- for moving digital video from the camera to the PC. For more on DV, spend time in our DV forum.

Alternatively, if your PC has analog capture hardware (a TIVO video card or a separate capture device) then you could capture analog A/V signals from the camcorder.

Well, my motherboard doesn't have FireWire, so I guess I'll just have to capture the streaming video using usb. I don't need a capture card for that, but the resolution is 320x240.

I don't have a capture card so I can't just play the video and capture it. Isn't there some other way to get the video to my hard drive without having to go to this ridiculous resolution?
