View Full Version : corrupt/wrong ifos...start from scratch?

hi,
after a long way i managed to succeed in correctly ripping a hard dvd source...now problem is, i found out that i have a lot of errors with the ifos: windows media player runs the movie without the root menu, while windvd crashes all the time when parsing the video_ts.ifo file... everything, of course, is ok if i open the original source.

since on this dvd i did a lot of things, like stripping some content which i didnt want to take (ads and so on), and since it is a multi-angle, i fear i did some mistakes during the entire process...

is there a way to correct the ifos in a some way (menus have been re-encoded with numenu, all the process followed the big-3 method) or recover/regenerate them starting from the original ones, or my only doom is to restart the entire process from scratch, i.e. redoing demux, encode, remux?

thanks, and sorry if my questions have already been posted by someone else... i hunted the forums for similar problems, but could not find anything related... :(

might need some more info here matey ...stripping some content which i didnt want to take what did you use to strip this content? since it is a multi-angle, i fear i did some mistakes during the entire process... what method/programs did you use? where there any errors at any stage, given by any of the programs?

did you use ifoupdate or batchifoupdate? how did you perform the ifoupdate stage?

cheers

to strip content i used pgcedit, then i rebuild the dvd image and mounted it. this seemed worked perfectly if played on a software dvd player on my pc

no errors where given in the entire process during any step, following the big-3 method

i used batchifoupdate to copy the files to the new destination folder. after batchifoupdate copied the files i used ifoedit to remove user prohibitions, then in ifoupdate i pressed 'get vtssectors' as explained in one of the guides here at doom9.

Any clue? can i restart the ifo update without redoing everything?

thanks a lot guys,

there is a 'restore' function in batchifoupdate, that can be used to retsore the original ifos to your 'compiled' re-authored destination folder.

when you use batchifoupdate, are you selecting the video_ts.ifo from both original and authored pathname? does batchifoupdate automatically select the re-authored vtses for batch-updating? or are you manually selecting which files to update?

prior to messing with the uops in ifoedit, does the 'dvd' play correctly in ifoedits dvd player?

i can only check if it plays now in ifoedit, after everything has been modified. The dvd 'basicly' plays, even if there are something which i would say not correct 100%:

randomly the intro movies for the menus are skipped, jumping directly to menu selection
sometimes u have to wait the end of a menu animation prior to be able to select (and run) a given menu item

so i would say that it is not working properly.

Last thing: when i used batchifoupdate, i remember that by selecting the original folder and the authored folder, it did not copy anything at all. I believe i did a mistake by my own, so I copied them by hand. Is here i created the mess?

Can I restart the .ifo update without re-encoding and re-muxing everything?

Thanks a lot,
Gemon

did you use nemenu4u to re-encode the menus?
in batchifoupdate, there is an option "move files when updating (when avaliable)". this option must be checked if you want the program to move your files for you.
to be honest i have no idea if this could cause your problem.

personally i would start with a clean VIDEO_TS folder in a different directory and start the process of updating all over again, using original .ifos/menu files/un-processed vtses.
