I stumbled on this just seconds ago: i stared at the Ac3 filter screen in disbelief!
My transcoded song, from DTS to AC3, was now 8bit wide instead of 16!
Why?
I never ever issued such a command, i didn't even resample to 44khz but left 48khz.
Why is it so?
And also, why is the volume of ac3 sensibly lower then the original DTS?

Please: can't someone help?
I can't find any switch in besweet to turn on 16bit encoding of AC3.

Relax, everything seems to be ok. It is the same with normal retail movies with AC3 soundtrack. AC3Filter always reports it as 8 bit.

Ok thanks!

Do you have a suggestion for the lower volume of AC3 files when transcoded from DTS?

Enable DRC in AC3Filter or check the documentation for a guide how to get the maximum loudness.

Other than that, I think some AC3 encoders can set DRC flags while encoding, applying dynamics compression.
