Hello,
I like the effect that QPel has on pictures is there any way to make AutoGK use QPel with XviD?

Currently No.

Currently No.
I don't know much about these things so I was wondering, is that a "no" because Xvid doesn't support it? Or for some other reason? I though (for some resaon... not sure why) that Xvid did have qpel.
Thanks,

XviD does support QPEL even though it is not turned on by default. You have to manually turn it on (if you feel it helps with your material). Also XviD encoder dialog settings are not accessible via AutoGK (there is a way, but complicated) because then it becomes no different from GordianKnot and defeats the purpose of being an automated tool.
Atm, the drawbacks of QPEL are more processor power to decode QPEL-encoded content (minor issue) and limited standalone support (major issue). AutoGK strives a lot towards standalone support by having ESS & MTK/Sigma profiles, disabling packed bitstream, using VBV (if instructed), using standalone compatible matrices (when instructed) etc. If AutoGK enables QPEL, then it will break standalone compatibility for about 90% of the standalones.
When there is a wider hardware support for QPEL, len0x might implement it.

Gotcha! Makin' sense now :)

My LG uses a MTK chip & it plays QPEL without a problem.
The reason I would like to see QPEL support is because IMO it gives the picture a nice effect. I can understand AutoGK choosing the best XviD arguments for for the size or quality chosen but QPEL seems to be different. I think it should be selectable in the advanced features & if necessary only available in non-hardware modes :)

AND that is why you have GordianKnot!! You can choose whatever you want.

No, GordianKnot is for advanced users who like to tweak settings, select filters, etc. I know little about digital video & I don't doubt AutoGK can do a better & faster job than I can at selecting the best settings. I just want to use QPEL!
Wouldn't it be smarter if AutoGK had selectable profiles in the advanced dialog box so that people can (if necessary) just select MTK, DVX, Unrestricted, etc. or otherwise automatically select an appropriate profile for the user?
I mean I (and some other users too) need to tweak MTK compatibility mode for it to work on my MTK standalone so I don't see the point of AutoGK restricting my input for the purpose to achieve something that it fails at anyway...

Talking about MTK compatibility, did you happen to notice this in the hidden options yet?

As for QPEL in AutoGK, I don't mind it being there or not, either way. It is len0x's call actually. Whether he thinks it is actually worth the extra coding to make it user-selectable or not (like how the 'Cartoon mode' is user-selectable now). It is definitely possible.

Yeah I noticed & my argument is that even with these options available sometimes tweaking needs to be done to the profiles.
Here is an example

Well I think a menu with XviD profiles & a button that allows tweaking of these profiles in the advanced dialog box would be very useful & I don't think it would require much more coding.
Len0x would you consider applying the change to AutoGK?

I don't have any plans for such feature and anyhow I'm on sabbatical now.

So are you saying you don't want to implement this type of feature, or is it a possibility when you get back from holidays?
Please clarify
Thanks,

hmm. sounds like he doesn't have any plans for such feature. Pretty obviously, he doesn't want to do it. Almost all users of AutoGK don't want/prefer it either, b/c it's mainly for standalones.

i for one wouldnt want it as a default option simply because my Divx player doesnt support qpel and therefor it would be pretty pointless in converting a movie into qpel. Now if more upgraded divx are compatible with qpel then maybe till later i wouldnt mind having it as a profile to select from as long as its not the default profile.
n i await divx6 support.

GK is pretty selfexplaining for standard use. There are much guides how to use GK without knowing more then what the BitRate is and it gives you full control over the XviD encoder. With the profiles in 1.1 you can turn QPel on an still encode without superior encoding knowlege. I would suggest GK for your purposes :D
