My hardware:

dual AMD 2400 MP (2 GHz)
1 GB pc2100 RAM registered
SCSI Ultra 160 - 10k rmp IBM 70 GB HDD (on own channel)
Gainward GeForce 4 128 MB RAM, AGP 4X, vivo connectors

I have about 60 gig of free space. I was originally told to use Huffy during the capture, then convert from there into MPEG-2 DVD format. Isn't my system capable of doing the compression during the capture? Also, what kind of quality does using the vivo for input produce?

I am unfamiliar with Gainward products or capturing with a GeForce video card (I was unaware that there was even a GeForce with a video in), but it really depends on the capabilities of your card. It's unlikely you'll need to use huffyuv unless you're going for the absolute best video quality, and if you do you'll need a huge amount of drive space, possibly more than 60 gig for two hours.

I've used a number of capture cards, all of which allow you to capture and save directly to DVD-ready MPEG-2. A better card will encode onboard, which really only speeds up the process and frees up system resources. If your card/software has this ability, by all means try it - I've had excellent results with a cheap card and a much slower computer than yours.
