View Full Version : DivxSM.exe - Possible to get rid off ?
Well i think the title explains everything - Is it possible to ged rid off (very) annoying DivxSM.exe safely ?
Even I launch a XviD movie it decides to start every time with the click and slows launching movies/video files...
I understand there are new features with new version but this is a step backwards according to me...
Thanks in advance for the answers

I think deregistering the DivX Decoder Filter should solve your problem:
Start -> Run -> regsvr32 /u divxdec.ax
And then register the XviD filter
Start -> Run -> regsvr32 /s xvid.ax
Now the XviD Decoder will be used and DivxSM won't start when opening a movie I guess.

This happens to me only in WMP10. With that annoying thing opening for my xvid videos then WMP10 tries to contact the codec server because divx makes it as if xvid isn't there. No Problem in MPC though but I think DIVX needs to fix whatevers causing this

You can turn off generic MPEG-4 decoding in the Decoder Configuration Utility.
You could also just find DivXSM.exe and rename it.

we want mpeg decoding, but we dont want the divxsm.exe digial56k, will there be a checkbox to stop it appearing in the next version?
im VERY disppointed in divx6, it seems a step back, a tray icon when playing xvid or divx videos and an awful excuse of an encoder divx converter, dr divx was miles better. you need to gain some ideas from auto guardian knot.
when you rename divxsm.exe, if you play a file in windows media player 10 it says error downloading codec, then the screen goes black with pixelated text saying
"warning: nothing to put
bframe decoder lag".
divx 6.01 better be a massive change or i shall be sticking to xvid 1.03.

With generic MPEG-4 decoding support turned off, that is when WMP10 will search for a codec from it's codec server and report no codec found when trying to play Xvid material, this needs to be fixed by DivX.
The Xvid material will play, however this codec search and subsequent failure to find it on the codec server causes a delay in playback of Xvid material and is bloody annoying.

Same here i think they have a lot to work on, i am very dissappointed on the release so i switched back to 5.2.1

Well I just did like that: Rename DivXSM.exe ...
Now it's impossible to access Configuration Utility with the error: "The settings manager was not found."
I really don't care Config utility if it works or not atm but wonder about post processing...
Renaming the DivXSM.exe would also effect Post Processing to work ?
(1 more critic: The old Post Processing settings were better imho, now with the automatic ones I can't really understand if they work properly or not and I believe there should be a manual control for more advanced users)
Thank you

Rename DivXSM.exe back to its original name, then see this:
