Blue bar on xvid files under linux

Hi there,
Whenever I play xvid files under linux, regardless of what player I use, I get a blue bar on the left 3-5% of my screen. It is not completely solid, it flickers, and it looks like when your tv isn't setup quite right and the colours don't line up. It works fine under windows however and there is nothing wrong with the tv. Anyone have any ideas?

Since you said TV, I assume you mean playing content over TV-out. What graphics card are you using and what driver (binary / opensource )? Have you checked your overscan settings?

yes tv-out is correct. I am using nvidia's own drivers (6629) on an fx5200. It is not an overscan problem because it does it even when i am viewing it in a window in the centre of the screen, sorry I should have made that clear.
