On2 Technologies Doubles Performance, Boosts Image Quality on TrueMotion VP7
Real-Time Encoding, Higher Image Quality Broadens Market Applications for VP7; Live Events, Video-on-Demand, Mobile Video Apps Benefit from New VP7
NEW YORK (June 20, 2005) -- On2 Technologies, Inc. (Amex: ONT), today announced it has significantly enhanced its flagship video compression software, TrueMotion VP7. With this enhanced version of VP7, On2 has more than doubled two-pass encoding rates, greatly increased image quality, doubled decode speeds and boosted performance specifications of its real-time encoding capability. These benchmarks position VP7 as outperforming competitive codecs -- such as Windows Media 9, Real 10 and most implementations of H.264 -- by up to 30 - 50%.
By enhancing VP7 and greatly improving codec performance, On2 has effectively broadened its addressable market opportunities by providing a high quality, high performance video compression tool that can address the stringent requirements of fast-emerging digital media content creation and delivery trends, such as video-on-demand, live streaming to PCs and mobile devices, VOIP and Instant Messenger applications and game development.
"The TrueMotion development team is constantly striving to shatter every performance and image quality benchmark; we understand that all of the newest digital video device innovations are only as good as the image quality they can deliver," said Doug McIntyre, chairman, president and chief executive officer of On2. "We're executing our plan to drive market trends with the highest quality, best performing video codecs in the industry. Our newest release of VP7 is testament to the team's success in meeting that goal."
TrueMotion VP7 now includes a set of features making it the most flexible solution on the market. These features provide developers more control over video than is available in any other solution on the market. The new VP7 offers:
* Outstanding quality video with low latency over networks with high data loss;
* Seamless and effortless text or graphics overlay on to video;
* Ability to handle dialup rates or broadband data rates without changing the output video size;
* Single, scalable data rate video streams that can be decoded at 56 kilobits, simultaneously with other users decoding at 300 kilobits.
