I recently installed DivX6, and of course i havnt encoded a thing with it as usual, but now all my Mpeg4 (which is 99% xvid) decodes with DivX, I know it is because i get that damn logo, does anyone know how i can decode with XviD which i prefer, i have tried to change the FourCC support via XviD, but it doesnt
have XviD as a setting.
thanx in advance

Start > All Programs > DivX > DivX Codec > Decoder Configuration Utility
Then uncheck "Support decoding of Generic MPEG-4 video."
That oughtta do it.

Not to be to the point... but why would you install something if you are not gonna use it?

I have DivX 6 installed similarly (with generic option off, XviD is dominant decoder). DivX will decode Div3, which XviD will not decode at all to the best of my knowledge, and it does a better job of decoding DivX files (in my opinion).
One more reason to have DivX on hand as backup; I've noticed from this forum and others that mpeg4 compatible DVD players, like those manufactured by Phillips, will occasionally have difficulty reading an XviD file.
XviD remains my primary decoder/encoder since it renders higher resolution and tends to run much faster than DivX (or anything else I know of) producing the most realistic results.

ffdshow will decode all.

I didn't get this part. How installing DivX on your *PC* serves as a backup if your *standalone* can't playback an XviD file?

Regarding ffdshow; I get strange luminescence when I use it, fluctuating color, etc. I have also experienced sudden crashes in the past as I use XP.
As far as DivX being a back up codec on a PC; I mean the DivX codec can be used to encode material which will play on the DVD player in question if there is a problem. A file can be converted, or a DVD can be backed up using DivX if the same material encoded with XviD causes a problem on said player for whatever reason.
I return now behind the pipes until we meet again.

Well a DivX encode with qpel enabled won't playback any better on an ESS based standalone. If an XviD file won't playback then converting to XviD with whatever feature is causing the incompatibility disabled should work just as well as re-encoding with DivX.

I'll keep that in mind if I should have any problems in future.
I still prefer DivX for DivX encoded files, and especially for Div3. Please dont beat me, I bruise easily.

thank you for your help, i musnt have worded it clearly enough, i didnt install DivX as a backup that makes no sence at all, i simply installed it to have a look at the new version, because I glanced at an article, it was supposed to have whizz bang new features. I have sorted out my problems by simply uninstalling DivX. thank you once again
and yes my xms-888 (ESS) works great :D, not that i mentioned standalones at all using the DXN HT PAL profile, I get no skipping issues (i used to alot before i used unrestricted), and of course i dont use GMC and QPEL which dont play back, ive heard some issues of PackedBitstream not playing back, no problems here.
thanx
