I tried so many times to rip a DVD into XviD... and damn, i can't get it "perfect"

Each time I play my .avi, it gots some kind of squares in the image... it makes the quality of my rip really poor and it tends to blur the image.

The audio quality is perfect... but the video sucks :(

I'd like to know why i'm doing wrong! It may be help: I'm trying to rip TV Episodes from a DVD. And my Bits/Pixel*Frame is like 3.56... and the load is 467%

What the hell is going on?!:(

Thanks for the help!

By the way, I was using this tutorial for my rips with GordianKnot: http://www.rita.lt/guides/GKnot_DVDtoAVI.htm

Sorry for the double post, but I post this image to help you guys understand what i'm talking about:

You can clearly see what I mean by "squares" if you look on the BLUE at the top...

"Well since you're using our guide I guess it's my responsibility to help...lol
Bits/Pixel*Frame is like 3.56... and the load is 467%"

3.56??? In the guide we tell you to use a very broad standard for frame quality (bits/pixel) that is at least 0.20 for a one-cd encode if you are hurried and don't want to do a compressibility test, 0.356 would be great if you can afford the resolution and target size, but i think you moved a decimal point someplace... 0.35 would be ok, not 3.56, I mean, 3.53 would be TOO good, basically not compressing anything.

Anyway, please let me know what target size you are choosing for the file (you could be choosing one that's way too big), how long the episode is in time, what GKnot calculates the bitrate to be after you set the target size, what resolution (width and height) you are choosing (and subsequently what the bits/pixel is after you adjust the width and height). You can send me a personal message if it's easier.

Also, if you're a novice and want to make it easier on yourself, just use AutoGK instead of Gordian Knot.

Post a _gknot.log file here, too. Its often helpful in diagnosing procedural problems.

I tried AutoGK, but I wasn't able to choose the Episode to rip when I was trying to rip directly from the DVD... and when I tried (with the Directory input) to select a directory where my .IFO & .VOB were... It was saying to me that there was no stream file or something. weird eh??

Since i'm at job, I cannot tell you exactly what are the specs you're asking me, so Im gonna post them to you later on!
One thing is sure, is that the Episode are 45minutes long, I want them to be a 350MB file so I can burn directly the .AVI to a DVD+R a read it with my DVD Player which can play .AVI files. The first season of the DVD i wanna rip is composed of 12 episodes... and I want them on only ONE CD... all the .AVI... only the .AVI so I can read them on my DVD Player or my DVD Rom on my computer... I'm not sure if you follow me... since i'm a french canadian and my English is so so :D

Thanks a lot for the help, it's really appreciated!! :)

P.S.: Ill post my _gknot.log file as soon as I'm back at home!

Here's a Screenshot from my setup... I know there is some THINGS wrong... but what and why!

By the way, this was a test with a 31 seconds clip from the DVD to help me find the pêrfect setup...

I almost tried everything in the CD thing and the file size...

Did you use DVDDecrypter to rip?

Well you can't put 31 seconds and make the target filesize 117 mb, that's huge for a 31 second clip, basically no compression at all and will give you nonsense for the stats and the test will be pointless. That's the problem. If you want to test you need to calculate the proper filesize for the length of the clip you want to test, otherwise there is no point in doing the test - like I said I don't have the time now, but 350 mb divided by 45 minutes is 7.7 mb for one minute of video, so 31 seconds should be tested at about 3.8 mb for the final target size, not 117 mb. We had given you some guidelines in the guide about target sizes, I don't really remember now but i think it was something like 150-180 mb per 20 minutes of video.

Well I have to run, I hope you understand.
