View Full Version : AviSource command crashes all programs

I recently installed AVISynth v2.55 on my computer. I am able to run the demo scripts provided (color bars etc). I do so by sending the avs files to the windows media player (v10).
However, when I use a script with only one command (AviSource), as described in the AviSynth web pages (in the intro) the media player disappears with no error message. It does not matter which file I use as the AVI source.
My script contains the following command:

AviSource("C:\Data\Video\Sony\Cap0001.AVI")

Obviously any other program that uses AVIsynth crashes in the same way (e.g. cinema craft crashes when loading the avs file - prior to starting the decoding).
My initial aim is to take an AVI file and convert to MPEG2 using one of the free programs that do so (they all require avs files) e.g. FreeEnc, HC015 QuEnc.

Any ideas?

Gideon.

Open the avi in Gspot codec appliance and post the info.

If the script

AviSource("C:\Data\Video\Sony\Cap0001.AVI")
ConvertToYUY2()

works, it means you need to install a YV12 codec (like DivX or XviD). See YV12 faq.

Thanks for your suggestions.

As I said this happens with all AVI files that I tried. They come from various sources. The AVI files play fine in Windows Media Player, but when
I try to play them via AVIsynth script using the AviSource command the program crashes.
In the example below, Gspot details are shown for a file I downloaded from my sony digital camcorder.
The proposed script with YV12 does not work either.

okay more info:
when i open the file in virtualdubmod and save it with direct stream copy it will be the same thing :(
when saving the first 14906 frames it says open dml avi 2.0 an all is fine
when cuttin off the first 14906 frames it will say multipart open dml first part with 14907 first frames and 80345 will follow...
more confusion here....
