yeah, as most will propably have realised already doom9 now has an own "mpeg-4 avc" forum!

Interesting change ... I wonder how long it will take for NeroDigital, x264 and MeGUI to evolve into separate sub-forums, just as DivX, XviD and Gordian Knot have.

Bleh... i can't believe anyone actually prefers the term Advanced Video Coding over H.264. What is so "advanced" about it? Why not go all the way and call it Advanced Video Coding Pro Deluxe XP Limited Edition?

Sorry to push a point, but it is in many ways the most advanced video standard today. Also, a string of letters is nicer than a string of numbers :)

That's fine now, but it won't be the most advanced codec forever. Will you stop calling it AVC when H.265 (or something) comes out?

of course not. H.265 will no doubt be MAVC, More Advanced Video Coding. :D :D :D

And AVC is just that.. easier written and pronounced than H.264.. who cares what the A stands for. We could also call it MPEG-4 visual level 10. So M4VL10.. how about that?

I'm still holding out for the Super Ultra Happy Fun-time Codec :sly: But seriously, given the direction this forum has been taking, it made great sense to split off the main "MPEG-4 part 10 AVC H.264" discussion into its own topic. Timely choice.

Maybe we should re-name MPEG-4 AVC to... MPEG-4 HE (High Efficiency)?

This would tie the expression nicely together with AAC-HE ;)
