i wasnt sure which forum to post this in, so please forgive if its in the wrong place...

when i try to load up an .avi i have in VirtualDub, i get the following error:

'Couldn't locate decompressor for format DIV3 (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion])'

ive seen this a few times on the forum here and elsewhere, but i cant work it out. ive installed the official microsoft codec for V3, and the binary hack of it

nothing seems to work! please help!

thanx for the suggestion,

i installed the gordian knot codec pack, and just to make sure i downloaded and installed a separate version of DivX 3.11 alpha

still no luck with the file though, i have all the codecs from doom 9 and the latest Divx 6 and still i get the same error

"Sounds" like a registry problem to me. Start Vdub, use Video...Compression menu command, and see if the DivX ;) low and fast motion codecs are listed. If not, DivX 3.11 alpha is not installed, or not installed properly.

Moved to PC forum.

I am getting the same problems, can't play DivX3 files. But i thought the new versions of DivX could decode all previous versions?

Install FFDSHOW, it decodes all MPEG4 codecs like a charm.
