Hi.
I'm using Encore DVD to author my dvds and I always use the same procedure to handle the audio.
I extract it from the avi using nandub and, without treatment, I put it in the encore.
I don't treat it because encore gives me a stupid error (Abnormal condition followed by ilimited "unknown error" messages, making me shut down the program by brute force).

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.
I'd like to know what...

So what format is the audio in??? AC3?

Try running it through AC3Fix

It's an ac3 with an wav header.
Even after passing it through BeSliced, encore throws out the error message...

Encore can handle PROPER AC3 files. Why would it want to have a WAV header in this circumstance?

When you use nandub to extract audio (an avi with ac3), it extracts the audio in its correct format (except the file extention) but it puts a header of wav.
After that, you use BeSliced to correct the problem, wright?
If you load it to encore, it accepts it however, when you put it on the timeline, the error pops up....

If you leave the wav header, encore puts it on the timeline and the error occours sometimes, after the dvd was recorded. And the result is as good as if the errour didn't happend.

But this wav (that is an ac3 file) has 5ch and encore doesn't accept it, unless you run it through BeSliced (then encore doesn't see it as an wav file) and alter it's extention to .ac3.
... and we're back at the error...

Maybe I should try to use another software to extract ac3 the audio from the avi.

Know any good one?

I did some tests and I realized that the error happends only when video and ac3 audio are in the same timeline.
If I put them in diferent timelines, nothing happends.

I've solved it.
Well, I went around it, to be more precise.

Instead of direct stream copy on Nundub, I chose full processing mode.
Nandub had to remake the wav and outputed a real wav file.

Thanks for your atention...

Yeah - but now you're losing your surround sound!

I use VirtualdubMod to demux AC3 and have never had a problem using that output (without any other processing) in Encore.

Well, then I don't know...
It might be from some incompatibility with the sound and video...
I tried it with VirtualdubMod and it didn't work either.

I know it's been a while and I'm not sure whether you have overcome this problem in some way... Anyway, here are my words on this:

Encore sometimes gives this error, I don't know why. I've read here Encore always accepts proper AC3, but I can tell you I've had this same problem with AC3 encoded by the latest version of Steinberg Nuendo Dolby Digital Encoder!..

The curious thing is that this problem seems to be somewhat associated with the combination between Encore and certain Hardware architectures. I used the same software installed on 2 different machines to author the same DVD project and in one machine I kept getting that error, while in the other PC I had no problems... And I was always using the same files!

Encore can be slightly buggy on some computer architectures... Try another
PC if you can.

Cheers!
