View Full Version : Output file not specified size in some occasions

Hi
I did a number of conversions and all 15 files were sized correctly to the size I set, except one.
There does not seem to be any noticable difference: same length, same settings, same general content type - but still the resulting file size is 227 instead of 233 mb.
Its no big problem, but I wondered about the reasons.
Can you tell them to me? (See log Below)
I've got another question:
Whats the compressibility value? The more the better? Is 100% max?

Codec maxed out. With your current settings you can't get the filesize anymore higher. If you really want to hit 233 MB, don't do MP3, keep the AC3 6Ch.
Compressibility percentage is a matter of personal taste, but more than 80 and you start loosing the advantages of MPEG-4 compression.

I had a file come out too big. I was aiming for 700 Mb to put it on a CD but it came out to like 703. If I can cut off the end of the credits I should be able to reduce file size by a couple Mb.
I dont mind throwing away the credits. Is there a way to just cut off the last couple Megabytes of the file??

Yup. Check the section called 'Splitting AVIs into multiple parts' under this (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/virtualdub_procedures.htm) guide. Use the same technique to cut off the credits. Just imagine that you are splitting the movie into the main movie and credits.
As a side note, unless your CD-Writer is antique, it should be able to write 703 MB with ease using the 'overburn' feature of your CD burning software (e.g: Nero). Check here (http://www.vladd44.com/other/overburn.php) for a visual guide.

I didnt save to logfile from before when it came out to 1 gig
But I just ran it again and its still too big, not by as much, but still it never seems to obey the specified output size
and the second pass is really wierd on this one, last time it actually ran the whole second pass
it used to come out perfectly every time before i got this new version, is there any place to get an older version?
It came out to almost 780 Mb and it looks fantastic but no audio. - buggy

that wierd 2nd pass problem only happened once, I dont really care about it. The thing that is really frustrating is output file size.
I always specify 1 CD (700 Mb) But for some reason it rarely ends up that way. It always likes to give me a 1 gig file. It happened again today on a new movie.
This problem only started when I got this new version 1.96 and 2.09b
Does anyone know how to make it always come out to the right size.
Or can I get an older version before 1.96?
Heres the log for Groundhog Day it gave me a 1 gig file again
