GOPs in TMPG Xpress

I am using TMPG Xpress and creating XDVDs using the ready template that comes with the software. Everytime I open it up in authoring software I get a "this file has open GOPs, it will play fine but chapter indexing may not be smooth, close GOPs where possible". Please note that may not be exactly what it says, but the gist of it is the same.

I noticed a tick box within TMPG that allows me to close GOPs, but my question is, why doesn't it do this by default ? What is the advantage of open GOPs compared to closed ones ? Will I see better quality with open GOPs ?

Haha, thanks for that, I didn't think of checking the CCE forum as I am using TMPG, but it all means the same, so thanks for letting me know as I would have missed it. So weird that it was asked yesterday, and I ask the exact same question today, spooky :)
