perhabs wizard mode and advanced mode will be better:

advanced mode:
- choose between ac3 or mp3 for audio
- choose resolution (I want 720*400 with black border for 2.35 movie !!!)
- why not a complete DVD structure transfert like for ratDVD?

Once you've started conversion, it doesn't seem as if you can add additional files to be converted. It would be nice if there was some way to add jobs to the list while conversion for a proceeding file still runs. Couldn't you start a separate thread that allows for analyzing the source and presenting you with the VERY few options you have? That way, the file would be processed and added to the jobs list all while the first file is still being worked on.

...just a thought.

OK, let's knock some easy ones out of the way:

1) Boost audio volume? Bring it back please.
2) Need to be able to choose the output location. I know you like the idea of that little DivX Movies folder, but no one (and I mean no one) wants to have their movies there.
3) If you're dropping a vob file, make the name of the divx file correspond to the name of the folder that the vob file was stored in.
4) Insane mode? Why can't you use it? Does it break compatibility with the hardware players? If not, enable it in Converter.

...that's all at the moment.

My feedback is that its way too simple. I support the concept for a standard mode, like it is now, and an advanced mode like Dr Dixv. I dont want to use virtualdub and this is one of the reasons why I paid for Dr Divx.

I'd pay another $USD5 or similar ontop of the standard convertor + the mpegii plugin for an "advanced" plugin.

feature requests:

1) can't select output directory????? WTF, that's a required feature. I've got 600GB free space on _other_ drives waiting to be filled, yet the Divx movies folder decides to hog up my smallest drive. If it weren't for a post elsewhere on this forum griping about the Divx movies folder, I wouldn't even have a clue where my video went.
2) selectable audio output format.. how about AAC? Multi-channel AAC? and, for the unlucky ones, MP3?
3) optional "hidden" settings, where I can tweak once and have all my encodes thereafter follow suit. Only the size setting needs to be there after I've tweaked things, usually.... check out OggDropXP to see how this can be done beautifully :)
4) reasonably sized status bar. The tiny little bar looks empty for too long, and the program doesn't really tell me what's going on in between..
5) when the Converter is running in the system tray (nice feature!) how about showing the progress in a ToolTip?

My number one wish list item is for a "dvd shrink" type advanced plugin, that took backups of the complete DVD menu structure, the chapters, the audio channells, the subtitle languages and all the video, and enabled the user to transcode it all into Divx and with the Divx media format. You could have a "dvd shrink" like layout that enabled you to only take some audio, some subtitles, some of the video and so forth. Within this you could allocate any type of video transcode options available, from certified profiles to custom insane grade setups.

I like to be able to set the desired bitrate, rather than the desired output filesize. That's the primary reason I use Dr. Divx over AutoGK.

Each time I try to convert a DVD to divx, after rip the dvd on my hard disc and after selected the right vob, audio and subtitles I want, at the end of the encodage (I have chosen Home Theater profile), I have an error message as the conversion hadn't been possible because I haven't MPEG 1 encoder installed on my system...

Where can I find this encoder because I can encode without problem with divx 5.x ...

How about DELETING temporary files after (failed) conversion? An encode failed because of low disk space, and the Converter pwned it all. Seriously, WTF and where did my space go?

I had a gig free, so i told Converter to make 1 700MB file.

Feature request: how about checking for disk space, then offering a totally different output folder?

How do i rip my DVD movies so I can chose the subtitles in Converter?
When ripping as one big file in IFO mode and choosing that .vob file there is no subtitles to choose from. (avi.NET/vobSub finds the subs just fine that way)

Better subtitle support. i've backing up some dvd's i own and the subtitles look so thin!!

i used to get better results with divx 5 and by using srt2bmp with the fuse tool.

if the fuse tool was released long before divx6 how come the xsubs went from ok to terrible?

It takes a certain level of competence to even produce a file to encode. Yet, the Divx Encoder assumes a much lower level of competence. In fact, the encoder app is so simple, it's difficult because it's a struggle to work around its total lack of features, including where to save a file.

I know there are ways to use the full power of the new Divx codec. But, that's going from one extreme to another in terms of difficulty. Dr Divx was a good balance.

I'm sure the folks and DivxNetworks have more useful version of the Encoder app. Why not release one of them in the lab section for the mean time?

Yes a "DVD Shrink" style mode was exactly what I was hoping for. I really want to start using the .divx format with menus etc.... having the converter app act like 'dvd shrink' would be perfect

Hello!

I get an error every time I try to encode several MPEG-1 video files into a single DivX file with menu.

The first part of the process (Analyzing/Encoding) works fine, but it crashes at the end (when it is "building DivX menu") and a message appears: "Abnormal program termination".

What am I doing wrong?

Here's my 2 cents.

1) DVD shrink type componant with ability to scrap streams, etxras etc.

2) IMDB support for Xtag to get DVD info and cover art for DVD ripped .divx files.

3) Better subtitle configuration

4) Better audio support (AC3 etc)

5) The main one I would like to see is a nice GUI for menu creation

6) Option for multipal output files (eg. CE compatable or PC compatable)

Maybe a wizard mode with with the following: (This way it would still be very powerful, but not 2 much for noobs)

a) DVD to Divx- DVD shrink type interface with stream selection, video/audio encode settings, Xtag import, subtitle settings, output settings (SD or HD, for CE or PC)

b) Convert a file- input file, video/audio encode settings, xtag import, subtitle settings, output settings

c) Divx Media Creator- menu creation GUI, merge divx media with menu and subtitles, xtag editor.

I did my first test encode and encountered two problems.

1. I was using a .vob source. When I dragged one .vob on to the encoder it selected the entire VTS set including the *_0.VOB menu. Of course this meant I had several minutes of useless menu video before the movie began. I didn't see any way to select just the movie .vobs without putting them in a separate folder.

2. The audio was completely out of sync. This may have been due to the inclusion of the menu before the feature.

I like the simplified interface, but some basic options like output name, location and size would be nice. Right now I'm re-encoding 4 AVIs to try out the combine + menu feature and I have no idea what size the output is going to be.

How did you rip the DVD onto your hard disk? Which ripper do you use? You must always rip it in IFO mode, to ensure you only rip the main movie and also to have an *.ifo file (in addition to *.vob files), which is necessary to be able to select which audio and subtitle streams you want in the encoded movie, when using DivX Converter.

Exactly. If you rip the DVD in IFO mode, you will not have this problem anymore.

Ok, thanks for the explination. I ripped it in FILE mode. Hopefully that will be supported at some point.

My 4 25-minute AVI encode came in at 740MB. Quality was very good considering the size and original quality of the source. The menu also looked and functioned well.

I think that the idea of DivX Converter is good, but I miss a lot of features, like:

1) Choosing the final file size.
2) Choosing the audio bitrate, being able to select different bitrates for the different audio streams you want encoded in your file.
3) Choosing the output resolution.
4) Choosing other performance/quality modes different from "balanced" (which is the only one we can use if we want to use DivX Converter).
5) Choosing other advanced codec settings, like GMC, qPel, multiple BVOPs, psychovisual enhancements...

Because... why do we want DivX 6 PRO if we can only use balanced mode and B-frames? These features are already available in the non-PRO version ¬_¬

In addition to the all features written above (which I find really basic), I think that the ability of adding *.srt/*.sub/*.ssa subs to the video we want to encode and converting them to the XSUB format would be interesting.

In the positive side, I really like the easy way it works when encoding from a DVD: you just drop the first *.vob, you select the streams (which are very easy to identify in a really user-friendly window) and press convert.

But we should have the ability of modifying other parameters.
