the new Divx 6 is now out. will AutoGK support that?

not sure if it's important yet as I don't know if my dvd player will play it.

DivX 6 is still mpeg4 and compatible with DivX 5. So if your player plays Divx 5 it will play Divx 6 too...

well that's good.

what about support for converting .divx files into .avi files.
I know my dvd player won't play files with the .divx extention

.divx files are, when only caring about audio and video (so no subs and menus) simply .avi files

so audio/video-only .divx files should be safely renameable into .avi

I was wrong. I tried a .divx file and it did play in my dvd player.

so just to let everyone know. .divx will play in the philips dvp642

the multipule subs and audio tracks work also. the only thing that didn't work was the menus

aw man i was really looking forward to the menus... any idea when AGK 6.10 will be released to support divx 6.0?

What's the situation with 2.09b - is installing DivX6:-

a) unsupported, but possible
b) unsupported, not recommended
c) unsupported, and won't work
d) b) & c)

?

my guess would be A

I did a test encode with it and it works fine and played fine when it was done.

just can't encode to .divx or multipule subs but works fine for a regular .avi

I tried using autogk with Divx 6 and it hung up in the compressibility test. Never got any further.

I tried AutoGK 2.09b with DivX 6, and it made a horrible-looking file with plenty of blur and not much else. XviD made a perfectly crisp replica of the DVD at the same bitrate.
DivX 6 does _not_ work with AutoGK yet.

not sure why it worked for me if it's not working for anyone else.

I'll try doing another file

len0x
18th June 2005, 16:07
I does NOT work! Settings are not being propagated to the codec at all, so codec uses whatever state you left in another application (if any).

tipsypenguin
18th June 2005, 17:12
ok
so if had used another program first to encode a divx file then it would use those settings?

if that's true then that's probably why it worked for me. I used the divx converter first.

thanks for clearing that up len0x

len0x

yep, that's why, but those settings have nothing to do with what AutoGK is doing...

With DivX6 and GK you need to enter the DivX bitrate settings manually for the first ans second passes. Then it works fine !!

can we expect agk to work anytime soon with the new divx6 codec?

And also would be interesting if AutoGK can make Menus , Chapters and Xsubs for the new DivX Media Format.
even divx doesnt offers tools to place chapters, menus and subs in .divx, so how should agknot be able to do this ;)

Because convert is a bit slow with all ways, it would be nice if autogk and computer could be shut down even if the convert process is not ended, and convert could be continued from that point where it left.

Sorry for my bad english.

And the of the old and good GK?
Theres no intetion to make an version with Divx6 support?
Just need to correct the registry setting for the pass and bitrate.

Thanx (A)GK Team

Atm, not. Its impossible to do generic DivX6 support that includes any builds of the codec, so unless that is resolved there will be no changes...

Thank you for AGK and thank you for the DIVX 6 support!!!
I have a question:
Where can I see which build of DIVX 6 I have installed?
(to see if it is the supported build 1571)

I'm sorry for my bad english

Thank you

Check the properties of Divx.dll in windows/system32 dir.

My version read as 6.0.0.1571

FYI - AutoGK checks version of DivX and you won't be able to select it if you don't have supported version...

I've just made a DivX movie with AutoGK 2.13b.

DivX player reports that it's Video Format is 'DivX 5.0 Video' and it's profile is 'No certification'. Since I had uninstalled DivX 5 prior to installing DivX 6, how could AutoGK produce a 'DivX 5.0 Video' file?

DivX.dll version is 6.0.0.1571

have a look at the 2nd post in this thread

That post talks about compatibility, not versions.

I'd expect DivX 6 Codec to produce avi files with DivX 6 version embeded into them. Unless keeping the same version number is a compatibility issue, in which case how do we distinguish a DivX 5 from a DivX 6 movie? However, since I don't have any other means to produce a DivX file apart from AutoGK, I can't tell for sure if DivX 6 brands the avi files with version 6 or with version 5...

DiVx 6 movies show divx 5 to maintain compatibilty with standalone players.

If you use Gspot (latest beta version) that shows the code number of the codec. DivX 6 = 1591 (i think... thats the version number os the encoding DLL for the codec.
