View Full Version : DD 2.0 changes to DD 5.1, how to properly demux?

Neuron2,
Please excuse my noob description. I am finding that I have streams that are being demux as DD2.0 when I know that they are 5.1. I have read that this error occurs because the streams starts out as 2.0 (during opening credits) and later has the 5.1. When this occurs the 2.0 flag causes the whole stream to be improperly flagged. A guy at another forum described this a "soft" detection and suggested that all I could do was keep trimming the start until the first flag was a 5.1 flag. Is this really necessary? Could DGIndex be forced to demux as 5.1?

@dlight
Can you make a stream available for testing? You can upload it to my FTP server and notify me here of the filename.

Sure. I'll upload as soon as I get home.
Update - I am going to reacquire the original stream parts and see if I can demonstrate the problem that way because splitting the file (already joined together) isn't producing the results I wanted. The problem could be in the joining but I can't under stand why that would be the case. I'll send you a joined file and some component parts. Probably tomorrow morning.

I'll be interested by a solution to this same problem too

I'll be interested by a solution to this same problem too Please provide a stream for testing. I can't address this without a stream that has the problem!

Sorry, it is coming soon. I've had some problems with my internet connection at home.
Ok, so much fun with my ISP. I am now uploading 3 seperate files, spidy1, spidy2, spidy1and2 (1 and 2 joined). 1 has the D2.0, 2 has D5.1. If you try to demux spidy1and2 it will give you a D2.0 file.

Thank you for the files, dlight.
As far as I can determine, the 2.0 vs 5.1 mode affects only the filename used for the demuxed file and the string put in the info box. Otherwise, the track is just demuxed as is. There's no flagging added or any other alteration by DGIndex. I demuxed the track from your combined stream and played it from start to finish without problems.
So I don't really understand what your issue is and what you are asking for. Is it just a matter of the reported filename and info dialog report being misleading?

There may be no problem, my receiver does not have a readout which tells me which channels are on or active, however I have noticed that the Pro logic light stays on longer than I would expect. ProLogic is only supposed to be used when there is a non-5.1 track being played. When I searched some forums one guy indicated that the flagging gets messed-up. What I guess I need is some software that tells me what audio is being output at a given moment. Does anyone know of any that does this?
Oops, forgot the thank you for looking into this and for all your work previous.
Update - I've asked the guy who told me what the issue is to check out this thread and offer some info.

I'm going to move this to the audio forum for better exposure to the audio experts over there. I'll keep an eye on it in case it has any implications for DGIndex.
