However the idea behind ratDVD is not bad at all.
A all in one solution for DVD backups with a good compression that supports menues and all the features you can find in a DVD.

Well as more and more of the project gets opened up, presumably someone could replace whatever compression is used with something else.

Of course not :) It woluld be so nice a tool what produces interactive mpeg4 for the osmo player

Call me biased, but I don't encode to any non-MPEG format... perhaps except AC-3 and DTS since they're so standard. PCM is nice too. But with 5.1 LC-AAC I don't see the point with AC-3 anymore.
