i've recently encoded some mpeg files using ulead video studio 6 - never normally have a problem with it.
however.....

when i try to play back this recent batch, they seem to play fine, unless i try to seek - in which case the playback program crashes - i've used windows media player, vlc etc.

also if i use dvd2avi to create a project which i then load in virtualdub to convert these files to a divx, virtual dub crashes.

is there any way to fix these files or are they destroyed forever?
thanks!

you could try ReStream and see if that helps. probably not though...

also you can direct-stream-copy with mencoder, which may at least tell you where the problems are, or in the best case give you a workable file.
