my pc is 3ghz, i have 1 gig of ram and plenty of hd space.
however....
whenever i try to capture using virtualdub i lose hundreds of frames.

the ony thing i can think is causing this is the capture device - a usb 2.0 capture device.

could this be the cause or is there an obvious setting i should be tweaking?>

it's full res PAL i am trying to capture by the way.

if i use another program such as ulead video studio i get no dropped frames.

Although I dont like USB as capturing pipeline, USB 2.0 is enough.
Is there something which affects too much the USB I/O of your system.
Do you have ACPI (or how that IRQ routing is called) active?
So you should check your compression options.
Which codec did your choose?
Which Card brand/model do you have?
Which Driver is shown by Vdub ...

Infos ... pleeeze ;)
