3d Video

Has anyone tried to create 3d video using overlayed video each of a seperate hue. I am still plugging away at GUI's, now all free to download on my site.

I have had a bit of success but it does need wearing the blue red lense glasses.
I have played around with various offsets of the overlay. Each video is converted to a form of greyscale in the hue of red,yellow and blue. Still got work to do. It will be nice to have it do it all in one pass.

Any surgestions welcomed

If i understand correctly you want to create 3d video form a single camera? This will not work, you'll have to use two camera's simultainiously and overlay these two images.
Or you could use a 'smart' lens as in the google link.

Yeah, you have to photograph the image from two perspectives to get 3D.

Just like like your eyes, your left eye sees a slightly different angle of the image then your right eye and combined they give you depth. That's why people with one eye have no depth perception.

I think you also have to keep the distance between the two cameras fairly close. I have a 1940's stereo camera that I use to take 3D images, much like the old viewmaster reels, and it's lenses are the same distance apart as your eyes.

Not quite true...........there is software such as Fractint that will take a 2D photo and convert to 3D. Also Terragen and Vista Pro 3 that will convert a 2D ariial photo to 3D with fly thru anamation on the planet Mars surface.

I am trying the multi colour images. 3 overlayed slightly offset. If you can remember the old 3D films. when you used red and blue lenses.

Yes, it may be possible to delay he field to one of the eyes to give better 3D effect. One downside to a lens attachment or dual camcorder is the drop in vertical resolution.When you use the one darken lens, if the direction of motion changes, the 3D effect inverts. The dark lens I think just slow the speed of ight down enough to create the 3D effect. There are several sites on the web that deals with this subject. The 3D effect is fantastic watching sporting events.

Yes you are correct, it's not true 3D, but the illusion is quite something to behold. With Vistapro and Terrragen it's called shape from shading which is the way NASA does the fly thru.

Hey Guy's get back on thread I have not had a reasonable reply for my original post yet.

I am trying to come up with a script that will take a clip, seperate it to 3 colours and overlay suitable for viewing through simular red blue lenses that were used years ago to make those 3d films some of us were old enough to remember.
"Charge of the Feather River", "Kiss Me Kate" for instance. Is that showing my age.

there is an anaglyphic 3d feature in imagemagick
my avisynthport of imagemagick won't support it as it only takes one clip/image as input
i can put it on my todo list, but it might take quite a few weeks until i get to it

Interesting, Look forward to investigating. Do not get me wrong I have received a heap of ideas. looking for the simplist solution. I am about to try software that converts a still image to 3D. I might be able to set up a script to do it after outputing each frame as an image and then re connecting them.
