Hi. I have an ISO image of a rare DVD that was accidentally destroyed while we were moving to another apartment. I now want to encode this movie to XviD format. I opened the iso image in Winrar and noticed that the movie is split up into many vob files and an equal number of ifo files.

Is it possible to add all these files into DGIndex in the right order and encode them according to the XviD guide? Is this even possible? If it is, then will there be any audio synch problems when the encoder moves from one file to another? Thanks.

If you have the ISO image you can just write out a new DVD that is a copy of the lost one!

But to answer your question...

If the VOBs are CSS encrypted, you'll have to rip from the ISO image using a ripper like DVD Decrypter. Then you can process the ripped files as normally in DGIndex.

Open DGIndex.exe-->press F2-->select all the VOBs you want using SHIFT+up/down arrows-->OK.

Like this:

In normal circumstances, there shouldn't be any sync issues.

I wish!! The problem is I don't have a DVD burner :(. The DVD in question was a DVD-R backup. The original is with my friend who is out of town for a couple of months. Hence, this predicament. I don't think the files are encrypted. I'll see what I can do. Thanks a lot folks.

I tried doing just that. However, I DGIndex shows the following warning:

"WARNING:Operating GOP is not closed. The first few frames may not be decoded correctly."

What do I do? Shall i continue with the encoding process as usual? Thanks.

"WARNING:Operating GOP is not closed. The first few frames may not be decoded correctly." Yes, you can proceed with your encode. This is just warning you that the first few frames are replaced with copies of the first good frame. This is done because some streams have "orphaned frames" at the beginning which cannot be decoded properly.

Have you ever seen the "B-frame lag" frames at the start of an XviD video? It's basically the same thing, except I think is a bit more user friendly to replace the frames with a good copy of an actual frame, instead of the black frames.
