Hi,
I'm trying to backup an NTSC film to XviD - but when viewing the DVD in Gordian Knot for some reason it has a strange framerate (1 in every 3 frames is a duplicate). To solve this, I used Donald Graft's decomb package and encoded the video with no problems. However, since the framerate has now been lowered to 19.80FPS the audio will not synch up with the encoded AVI, it gradually gos out of synch as I go further into the film.

What programs can I use to convert the AC3 file so that it matches the new framerate of the encoded video? There is a 7 second differance in duration between the AVI and AC3 so I'm going to mess with time stretching to see if that will do anything... In the mean time, any help is greatly appreciated!

It is not your audio which is messed up, it is your video. Looks like you did:

a) IVTC twice
OR
b) ForceFilm-ed and then IVTC'd again.

29.971x0.8 = 23.976
23.976x0.8 = 19.181

That is why you have a 19.18 fps avi (check the specs again, it should be 19.18 fps and not 19.80 fps). And if I am not mistaken, your avi should 'drag' a lot? You should only do either ForceFilm OR IVTC depending on the material.

Hey,
Nope I made sure force film was unchecked when analysing the duplicate pattern - I have no idea why the framerate is so unusal but the AVI plays fine@19.80... (no jerks or dragging) I acheived this framerate by using the decimate command (without telecine) with "cycle=3" option with no other deinterlacing/IVTC tools activated.

Good news, the time stretching sorted my problem out ok! Converted the demuxed AC3 to wav, and stretched it in Cool Edit so it matched the duration of the AVI (it was only about 7 seconds longer) If anyone has a similar problem and would like me to go into more detail, PM me :)

Your avi plays fine at 19.181 fps? :confused:

EDIT: OK, you said it does. Can you please post your script & logfile?
