Dr.DivX uses avi v1.0?.. LOL

It was my 1st(and last, i guess) try to encode stuff with that tool...
When file reaches 4gb(an outdated avi v1.0 limit - my bad: i didn't note),
conversion just stops... And there's no way to set some newer avi format
afaik. I've only tried dr.divx because source is wmv(hd-wmv). Rofl. What a waste of 3 hrs encoding... :devil:

What's the problem with "normal" avi? It's 1.0 for maximum compatibility with standalone players.
If you have problems just split the encode in 2 or more files.

Nah... Why to bother. I've just switched to asf converter(which uses opendmlv2.0),
and now i already have single 7.5gb hd avi. No need to split/cut/join - it's
exactly the same as the source(except soundtrack), but in more flexible mpeg4 format. ;)

actually the limit for legacy is 2 GB not 4. 4 GB is the limit of FAT32... sounds a bit b0rked if Dr. DivX would create 4GB legacy AVIs...

It exact size was 4gB and then dr. divx just stopped - no error messages,
nothing, like it's the way it should be. I've tried to figure out what's the file
status, but headers were destroyed and file was totally unusable. I had no
intention to get a headache by investigating and repairing it, so just deleted.
Ok then, dr. divx is not for hd-dvd creating i guess, right? =)

Because Windows 98 and ME use FAT32 which is limited to 4 gig files. That would be one explaination why Dr. DivX would stop enconding the file, but since you are using XP that can be ruled out as the cause of the problem.

Heh, if you were reading whole topic you would noted from the start that
the problem wasn't the filesize, since i've made another file of 7.5gB, which
couldn't be possible if i were using fat32. Furthermore, it's a known issue w/
old legacy avi limitation, just i didn't remember properly is it 2 or 4gB. If it 2,
then they must've hacked their avi-writer. But none of this is of my concern,
i'm using only XviD. =)

Nah, i know about flame rules.
But even though, i guess, people have right to know about glitches.
I've just used this tool for certain purpose, and was dissapointed.
Maybe this post will save a few wasted hours for some1else.

Please, try to be polite when posting; aside from bashing this entry-level software product for having limitations that most of its market wouldn't necessarily reach; you were also rough on Video Dude, who was just trying to help. And its that I was probably most concerned with. Unlike Video Dude, DivX Networks have taken a lot of abuse; they're more used to it.

Your 7.5GB file comment was buried in your second post in the thread. It could easily be missed, even by someone reading through the whole thing. I missed it, too, and I'd read the whole thing. :-)

I don't know if or when DivX Networks plans to eliminate this limitation; they're welcome to make an announcement here (or in their own forums) if they so choose.

And I would like to add that this is a public forum. Many people have the same problems, so answers are also for people who would search on this topic in the future. Answers are often posted even though may not pertain to the orginal poster.

I read between 50 and 100 posts each day and post answers to a few of them. Since I have a busy life and job, sometimes when time is tight I skim them to get the general idea. Doing that works 99% of the time, but there are instances where things are missed, especially on posts with improper sentence structure, lack of capitalization, and abbreviations.

I took this thread at first as troubleshooting and not as some flame at DivX Networks, which I see now was the intention of the original post.

Okok. LoL. I've just been a bit pissed with this junky 4gB file...
And generally i have nothing against divx and their tools which have
not that bad approach(features, gui, etc.) toward newbs like me,
but this 4gb limit made me feel really stupid... :stupid:
