What's the point with it? How is it better to use OpenDML over *.avi 1.0? I've never ever noticed any difference between them.

less overhead (16 instead of 24 bytes per frame)
supports sizes > 2.0 GB

and that's without any research.. I suppose you'll find more details on alexnoe's site.
