View Full Version : Need help to tweak GK with the same settings than AutoGK ?

Hi,

I have GK 0.35 and AutoGK 2.09b, and 4 issues to raise here with them: Aspect ratio, brightness, dinterlace and noise filter.

1) I encoded the same video from a PAL 4/3 DVD with Auto GK and GK. When I choose 640 as the output video width in both, the video height stays at 480 in GK, while AutoGK automatically sets it a 496.

Now as I couldn't manage to do it, I'm wondering how could I set GK so the height is changed to 496 instead of staying at 480, while the width is at 640?

The reason why I want to do this is I found the AutoGK output video at 640x496 to be more near to the original aspect ratio of the DVD, while the GK output video at 640x480 looks a bit squeezed.

2) I found strange is that the picture from GK video is clearer than the one of AutoGK, so I wonder why AutoGK doesn't keep as much brightness from the original DVD as GK ? Is there a way to workaround this, as I didn't find any hidden option in AutoGK related to this issue ?

3) When I encoded my Pal DVD with AutoGK, the avs file had those lines for the deinterlace method used:

# DEINTERLACING (1)
FieldDeinterlace()
#FieldDeinterlace(blend=false)
#TomsMoComp(1,5,1)

# DEINTERLACING (2)
#KernelDeInt(order=1,sharp=true)
# or maybe
#DGBob(order=1,mode=0)

# DEINTERLACING (3) - special requests
#GreedyHMA(1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0)
#Telecide()
#SeparateFields()

So I could conclude that it needed only the FieldDeinterlace, and by checking the output video, I saw it was very smooth in motion movements. But when I chose FieldDeinterlace to encode with GK, the same panning views were blurred... So how could I set GK deinterlace filter in the same way than AutoGK did ?

4) In AutoGK Is there a way to add a noise filter and choose its level, just like in GK menu for avs options?

You can see my screenshots to make the comparison about aspect ratio, brightness and deinterlacing between AutoGK and GK.

1) easy - uncheck ITU resizing in options tab
2) I personally like autogk's screenshot more that gk's. You haven't provided log file but my guess would be that you enabled color correction in AutoGK.
3) AutoGK always uses "KernelDeInt(order=1,sharp=true)" as deinterterlacer.
4) not at the moment

Thanks lenox for your quick answer. After I unchecked the ITU option in GK, when I preview the video it's still squeezed unlike AutoGK...
And I attached the AutoGK log file for the video so you can check about its colors settings.

No color correction in the logs. Must be deinterlacer then.

And about resolution - autocrop must be done differently(i.e. GK crops more or has 32 as hmod instead of 16)

Here is also the avs file, which shows the lines "KernelDeInt(order=1,sharp=true)" are marked as unused while FieldDeinterlace() is used, so I don't understand how AutoGK could only use the KernelDeInt method? I had the exact same avs settings from AutoGK with other videos.

you have attached file from GK, not AutoGK - scripts are competely different and AutoGK never uses FieldDeinterlace.

Oh yes you were right about avs and AR, thanks a lot for your help!

Hi,

There is a tweak called autogktweaker (use search for dl & howto inside the forum) . It's kind of restricting but usable, give it a try.

I've got one more question: If in AutoGK hidden options (ctrl+F9 when an input directory is selected), the compatibility is checked to enable standalone support with MKT/sigma chip, does it mean that the installed xvid codec will keep this setup automatically when I encode with GK? If not, then how could I enable this in GK ?

XviD codec settings will be retained even after the AutoGK encode and won't change unless you reset it. So when you bring up the XviD encoder dialog again while using GK, it'd have the same settings.

In GK under the Resolution tab, set the H-Modul to 32 - that forces it to use a multiple of 32 on the horizontal, since it can't be set manually.
