Subtitles In IFOEdit DVD Authoring

When authoring a basic dvd with 1 subtitle file in IFOEdit, does the sub format have to be .sup? My subs are in .srt format.

MuxMan doesn't take srt yet either (but it does a better job multiplexing, especially NTSC) Check over at the subtitles forum for a program called srt2sup - there is a new program to replace it, as well.

Thanks for the speedy replies! I already had issues using IFOEdit, and MuxMan does do a better job from what I can see so far (although it only takes .sup & .sst subtitle formats right now). I'll definately give SubtitleCreator a go, especially if it can do .srt to .sup conversions!

What software dvd players do you guys use to test out dvds on the pc? I just finished a test dvd using MuxMan / ImgToolClassic combination, and the subs were not selectable in Media Player Classic.

Yes, SubtitleCreator can convert .srt text subs to .sup bitmap subs. In fact, that's the main purpose of the program. Great tool, try it out.

I use Media Player Classic, too, for testing. It always works for me: I can select the subs in the DVDs authored with MuxMan without problems, so it must be a problem at your end.

BTW, why would you need ImgTool Classic in that phase? You author a DVD with MuxMan and the output is normal .vob, .ifo and .bup files, like in a VIDEO_TS folder. This is what you would want to test directly in MPC from your HDD, not an image file written with ImgTool Classic?

a little off topic there, i really would like to use SubtitleCreator. it looks very interesting, but i don't want to install that .NET framework it just messes with all my settings (hate MS Messenger:devil: ).

@CoNs: I use ImgToolClassic to build my dvd image so I can then burn it off with DVD Decrypter. I'm surprised the subs don't display for me either in MPC. But I can't even see some of my subs on retail dvds I own in MPC either. I installed VLC and the subs displayed just fine. But there were 2 problems with the subs that SubtitleCreator made: 1) they were heavily pixelated and jagged-edged (not at all like the original .srt subs, and 2) since I went from an XviD to DVD conversion with the video, the subs aren't displayed properly. They're displayed right over the entire video at the bottom, instead of going over only 1/2 the video and also the black borders (cuz it's widescreen). How can I manually move the subs lower in SubtitleCreator?

How can I manually move the subs lower in SubtitleCreator?Make sure you have the latest version of SC (v1.8.5 ATM, but a new version is being released every other day! Lotsa developing going on right now by the author, Paddington)

To reposition text subtitles: After opening the .srt/.sub file in SC you can either drag'n'drop the target area box (yellow outlined box on top of the background picture of the very nice Ms. Judd!). Or you can manually type in the values you want in the panel at the right side of the window ("Position the subtitles").

To reposition existing bitmap subtitles (SUP file): Use one of the two tools in the Tools menu. Either auto-adjust the vertical position of the bitmap subs to the same position as the actual target area box in SC. Or start up the more advanced Manipulate SUP files window, which lets you reposition the bitmap subs using the vertical slider between the background pic and the right side panel.

You can also use Steve Gibson's (www.grc.com) Shoot the Messenger prog to turn off Messenger Service (if you want a prog). But the easiest of all is simply to go into your services and disable the service.
