I've been a lurker for about a year now and have been a pro user since v0.80. Until now I've been able to read and answer my own questions but this time I'm stumped.
My problem is with the bitrate hidden option in DVD-RB .ini file. I have mine set to a max of 7000 but I notice that CCE changes it to 7800. What gives and how do I correct this.
Thanks

I just checked, and I see no way it could go over. The most likely problem is that:
1. The "MAX_BITRATE=" variable is not in the REBUILDER.INI file at the time of encode. This could happen if, for example, you loaded a project file that didn't have the setting in it.
2. You've somehow misspelled the variable or have put it in the wrong section.
It should be in the [Options] section and look like this:
max_bitrate=7000
The default value is 9000. I'd recommend to everyone that you leave this at the default. It will be adjusted automatically lower if the combined audio bitrates make it necessary... setting it too low increases the likelihood of of a video buffer overflow in CCE (especially likely in v2.70) and also limits the ability of the encoder to spike for high-action scenes.

Thanks for your reply Jdobbs
The reason why I lower the bitrate is because at the default setting I get skips, artifacts and freezes mostly at the end of the movie but sometimes in random places. Judging from previous topics in this forum, I'm pretty sure that it's because my DVD player can not read DVD+Rs fast enough at the default bitrate. I use Maxell media and burn at 4x using Gear Pro Mastering 6.5.
Maybe you could look at my .ini file and tell me if there is something wrong? Here it is:

My apologies, you were right. I found how this could happen. It will be fixed in the next version.
[NOTE: But read the next post.]

Hmm... after checking my notes, I now have a problem. The reason that was put in was to protect against the CCE v2.70 buffer overflows. I set that value to not go below 7800 because that was the threshold at which CCE would crash on difficult video... I'm not sure I want to change it back until Cinemacraft fixes their maximum bitrate sensitivity problem...
If I change it, every HBO video there is will start crashing CCE v2.70 when the "white noise" screen comes up.

At least I can quit racking my brain trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Appreciate your time and your program.
