Yes indeed, the new look forum looks great

Thankfully I've just got used to using AVS's new look forum too... but this layout is even better :D

Thanks for all the continued hard work you guys put in.

Thanks.. There *will* however be a few quirks in the beginning and I beg you all to bear with the fact that we/I can't do everything right from the start but at least our intentions are good and we will try to do our best in fixing the problems as they show up. ;)

This is a very nice look. The new and improved doom9.

As with everything doom9, there are always refinements and improvements being made. That is why doom9 is the premier international website that it is. :D

Yes... I thought you guys were up to something when I noticed the "vBulletin Message" was displayed using version 3.0.7 and not the usual 2.3.0...

the new controls are nice... but I rather miss the alternating grey/white separating posts. This feels a bit less compact? Anyway, I guess we'll all get used to it :D

Colours are nice but this thing takes too much vertical space and allows you to view less posts or topics on one screen.

Good ! I like the new feeling !

No, I'm not bitching. It does look nice. Only it gives a feeling of less functionality, more flashiness and more ornamentality; if y'know what I mean. I'm sure it's just a feeling that comes with all new things. I'm sure there are good points galore, too, for example a wider assortment of smilies to choose from, among many others.

The uneasiness will pass away, sooner than we think.

Regards.

I was so used to the old forum, I miss it already.

Like Nic says, it's gonna take me sometime to get used to new layout.

Yeah a bit flashy compared to the old one. Though the content is what counts and so far I dont have problems accessing it - Good Job! :)

The only thing I noticed so far - You can collapse forums ie minimize forums you never visit, but I'm sure there a few more new features (for users and moderators).

I kind of prefer the old one. This one looks less like a "discution". Every post are separated and need more scrolling.

Some things I have noticed. You can't easily see your "buddy list". The link to the "Forum Rules" is dead. I can't find a link to the "Forum Moderators" list :(

also is it posible to increase the width of the codewindow. It is not fun to have a 20 inches monitor if the code window is only half the width of the post so you have to scroll to see the entire content.
Else a nicer but more difficult to get an overview of the threads but that might come when I get used to it.

Ouch, "Forum Rules" are now back online. The "buddy list" is in your UserCP, although I have to admit that I never use it so I can't tell if this is a 'downgrade' or not and I'm not sure about the "Forum Moderators" list... Do you mean the "View Forum Leaders"-link at the bottom?

Please go back to old style , or at least to possibility to size letters, especially to those parts of forum and posts that are used to read.

Looks good but I did have to go back to adjust for new formats of code tags. Also, we don't have "Mark forum read" options anymore? I couldn't find it. :(

Will there be/ is there the possibility to change the skin of the forum? ( read : this here user feels ancient and terribly retrograde but would like to have the old straightforward scheme back, or at least something I can read easily)
I like the new options and layout, but I can't say the new colours/ design appeals to me one bit. I suppose we'll all get used to it after a while :)

@Swede

I need some clarifications. With perusing a forum, what does the "+" next to a user name mean in "Currently Active Users" block? I'm also assuming that a "*" means invincible...errr...invisible mode, right?

I suppose we'll all get used to it after a while :)Let me make one thing clear: This 'look-and-feel' is nothing that we've been aiming for... It's just that we *really* needed to upgrade the forum software. The visual 'enhancements' are mearly a bi-product.. When things have calmed down we might/will change it. :)

A + is a mod yes... But, can you actually see the names of the * (invincible ;) ) users?

In the FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/faq.php?faq=vb_user_maintain#faq_vb_custom_status)...

The buddy list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum. By going to your "My vB Home", you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online, and be able to send them a private message.

Where is "My vB Home"?

As for "*", I can see mine so far, which I couldn't see in the old forum.

Looking in "Who's Online" page, jeanl also tagged as a Moderator?

http://img247.echo.cx/img247/4610/screenhunter0046hr.png (http://www.imageshack.us)

True?

Update: @Swede

A correction for you on Moderator "+" status. At the bottom of "Who's Online" page is this.
+ User is on your buddy list

That explains my +s.

I'm not so much a fan of the icons (not enough contrast imho.. especially on the frontpage).. so if you have any working alternatives I'd be willing to consider.

As far as the general look goes... a lot of the layout is predetermined by the features vbb3 offers.. you can't just have the old look back. And in my personal experience every major change takes some getting used to.. when your favorite newspaper or magazine goes through a new layout phase, you are likely to be less than pleased but you'll get used to it eventually. I, too, am still in the getting used to phase but knowing what extra features I get in return, I'm all game.
